I have a gen. 1 iMac sitting here in my study.

It did work, but now doesn't appear to want to fire up.

What shall I do with it?

fish bowl. But wire up the speakers for soothing whale song. You'll love it and it'll relax the fish.

Land fill, that or have it dubiously recycled by small Indian children paddling about in baths of phosphoric acid.

You can't just drill a hole in the top, pour in some water and plonk some fish in it. but you can buy a conversion kit to make the project as simple as can be.
