He's one lucky guy. That was a bad one. Nice to see him on the mend already. Atherton Racing sent over some details of what happened..

Wow! I don't usually watch crash footage but he seemed real chirpy.

Good luck to him on his recovery.

That head cam footage is what I see when I crash. The difference is mine is misjudging a slippery root and hitting the floor. I wish him nothing but luck in his recovery and wish I (all of us) had his level of medical support during recovery. I might need to drop the WC from my name at this rate.

I often think whether the risks these Red Bull et al folks undertake for a sick edit are worth the risk.

MacAskill's ridge line or slab was a great watch. He's not going crazy quick, but still. Gee wasn't exactly nursing the bike down the hill. Look at the crash he had on that other ridge line Video.

Not sure when the fun ends and the shityourpantsandpotentiallydie starts.

I don't mean this in any kind of a bad way at all. these guys need to re-evaluate, I don't think any of us as "content" consumers are expecting them to put their lives on the line. Just happy to see the great skills that they all have.

The moral of this story is don't ride your bike off a cliff.

It might be just me but I’m a little uneasy of monetising his accident. I’m glad he is getting better

I’m not even sure I’d want to walk that line, let alone attempt to ride it..

Deary me that was MASSIVE! The initial fall and impact into those sharp rocks was horrific. Heal well Gee. That was a big one.

don’t ride your bike off a cliff

Especially as if didn’t end well for the Young Ones in a routemaster.

+1

I think crashing in a competition is one thing... and you can ask is it really worth it.

But crashing making content videos... er, maybe not.

I don't be think even a 100ft fall would make me wear that headband/red bull bandage, and I have very questionable dress sense

I think that's the problem. To get more views, more subscribers, hence more advertising revenue, you now have to go bigger/faster/more death defying than the last rider. You have to ask yourself when it's going to end even worse for some else. Gee must be a proper hard ba*#@!d to recover from that.

It already has.

Although I recall Jordie Lunn died just out riding with some mates rather than trying something totally insane.

Wish I'd videoed my big one. Nothing as exciting as a cliff fall, just side on to a Merc that drove away. Same fracture count. Heal fast...

If I set up a death defying trail that had a high chance of failure to gain social media proclaim, then failed resulting in the need to involve mountain rescue, air ambulance and hospital surgical teams I wouldn’t expect it be met with such glowing praise.

I quite like Gee or did at least when he was competing but thing a lot of the content creators need to have a rethink.

Apologies if Gee planned for any such eventualities and paid for the services himself to be there on stand by in case he stacked it.

It's just getting silly, lucky it wasn't a lot worse. Need to stop putting other peoples lives at risk for video clips.
Doesn't impress good riders but encourages less skilled riders to try stuff beyond their ability.

I think Gee's more able to judge his skills and risk factors than we are.

As for "it's getting out of hand", this is from 2008...

In terms of brand penetration, injuries are good.
Very powerful emotive force to watch humans badly injured. Good.
But they have to be the right kind of injuries.
We don't like paraplegics. Bad.
Death. Good.

I get what you are saying but guys like this would be doing something crazy regardless. Look up Matt Hoffman birth of big air. Guy built these huge ramps himself, pretty much worked to fund it. Was "donated" loads of the wood. Nearly died. One the ramps he built it's suspected that his mates burnt the ramp down to stop him. He still went and built more. All long before social media.

People like this just want to push the limits and like coming up with creative ways of doing so.

Was the camera attached to him the whole duration of the crash?

If so, I made that 12 seconds of rag-dolling into rocks and stones.

****ing hell.

Hope he heals quick.

Shit the bed, I've only just clicked through this. That was a proper deck.

I'd like to think that Gee is doing it because he enjoys the challenge rather than because he's a "content creator" though. 17-year old girls offering make-up tips are content creators.

That 'snow crash' wasn't small either. Came in far too hot, you can see from the state of the bike how hard he landed.

This sort of thing is nonsense. Where do you draw this line? Why not draw the line at anything above a red graded trail? Maybe we should start charging a tax for anyone who rides a bike of a marked trail in case they have an accident? Whenever there is an accident in the hills reported the Daily Mail comments are full of ignorant comments about how the hills should be banned in winter etc.

If people didn't push the boundaries of what was possible where would we be as a species?

Where do you draw this line?

When it's being done for monetary gain ?

So if you have an accident at work the costs of rescue the medical bills should be chargeable?

daft thing to say, I presume he's paid his taxes, so he did pay for them to come out to him

If I was hurling myself off a mountain at work then I would want to see the rescue helicopter, paramedics and doctors waiting for the inevitable. And I think health insurance would be a minimum.

And to some people riding spooky woods at Glentress is the same as doing what G is doing. Charging for medical/rescue is a daft idea as peoples line of what is acceptable is different.
Doing tree surgery or farming is dangerous, should they be forced to pay for medical/rescue?

It seems to me he's trying to do rampage type stuff but instead of hero dirt there's just big horrible lumps of Welsh slate everywhere.

You have to wonder if this is the end of his career, whatever that means. I think he is kidding himself that he will be back on his bike at full pace anytime soon

As to whether he was doing too much, thats for him to decide. His skills levels are beyond most peoples so its for him to decide. It would only be wrong if RedBull pointed to a hill and said we want you to ride that and here is £2k

.....mind you are the bikes still not selling very well?

the replies haven't reached into four figures yet, so it's far from that.

But in typical STW fashion i'll accuse you of being wrong and you must have a retort that suggest i'm wrong too !

Yes, what gee is doing is dangerous, but compared to other sports, it's not.
Look at the IOM TT, Motocross, or the bloke whose soloed el capitan. The human race has a long history of people pushing themselves "because it's there"
