Anyone else anxiously awaiting the call?
Well, I have been, but the boy has just called with all his amazing results. So proud, especially as I totally gave up before my O levels, bored with it all! He stuck with it and got some outstanding results, even in subjects we thought he was struggling with.
The new number scoring system is a bloody pain to understand though!
Boy's reward is a new bike, so if anyone has anything decent going... 😆

Just had to check myself to understand how my niece has done. higher = good. Higher total = better overall. I'm proud of my niece
My two have just got back. Couldn't be more chuffed, nice to see their hard work rewarded. 🙂
This stressy year has been one of the downsides of having twins - but today is the upside!
Nice one 🙂
Yeah - the scoring has been done (this is according to jr.) so that there weren't the spread of all A*s there have been in recent years. A 9 is "equivalent to A*, but harder to attain).
So if anyone's offspring gets 9s - they are amazing 😀
A 9 is “equivalent to A*, but harder to attain)
A 9 is like the top end of the old A*. The cut-offs for 4 and 7 are the same as for C and A. An 8 is the top end of the old A and bottom end of old A*. A 5 is the top end of the old C and bottom end of old B.
We're more than a little happy with our eldest's results this morning 🙂
clear as mud now 🙂
Got back from school a short while ago.
An 8, x3 7s, x3 6s, a 5 and a 4 for Maths - which is a major result as she really, really struggles with maths! 🙂
So all good in the muffin household - gets her to the next step which is the most important thing.
We read it as 9 a** 8a* 7 a and so on.
Good effort all - we were out for a meal last night to celebrate oab_household Scottish results a fortnight ago.
My niece got a 9 in her French GCSE and shes only 13!!
Admittedly she did live in France from age 7 to 11, but she only did junior school over there.
Well done to all those getting results, hope they got what they needed.
MCJnr has smashed it out the park - 7x9s, 2x8s, 2x7s and an old fashioned A* in Further Maths. He leads me to believe that this is the same as 10xA*s and 2xAs, I'm too thick to suggest otherwise.
Can't believe how well he's done with it this last 6 months alongside Grade 8 flute, Platinum Scout award, World Scout Jamboree and his silver DofE.
I've been trying not to be the boastful parent, but sod it, none of you know me in real life 😄
I actually took an exam in the new GCSE grading system. I didn't do much study but I still got a 2 which is really good.
After being a complete little shit at school for the last two years ..we had all but given up hope despite the constant nagging ( encouragement ) from both of us ..
This morning I couldn't be more proud as he has achieved "passes" in five subjects including the big two ..Maths & English ..
I've been feeling quite emotional ..
Well Done Alex !😁

That's amazing MoreCash - excellent!

Yes, I may have made an expensive mistake on this one. We took ours out for s meal at Nando's when he got his not yet GCSE results a few weeks back. I rashly told him we'd take him to Nando's again once he's done his actual GCSEs and if he gets eight 9s then he's allowed to eat as much as he wants (which is a helluva lot)
I was quite confident he wouldn't get 9s in English and so my money was safe....
Until he pointed out he's doing further maths as well and so it's still on the cards.
Relieved my boy passed his Maths. He got a level 5 which is a great result as he was struggling. A** in English language though.
My nephew managed 11 9's and 1 a* (some Maths level 2 thing still using the old system), unfortunately that means I owe him £120 🙁 I may argue Latin and Religious Studies don't count though...
Seven grade 9s, three grade 8s and two distinction* here. She taught herself business, as her school doesn't do it at GCSE, and got a 9, so not too bad 🙂
Some great results from our kids there - doesn't matter what the grades are, if they've got what they needed and/or exceeded expectations, that's a success.
Think I was proudest when he went round his teachers to thank them and say goodbye, as he's off to college rather than staying on at 6th form.
Turns out he did it mainly to tap up his music teacher for a spot in the band for the next school musical production - he knows they haven't got a sax player in the years below him, and they'll pay him £100 for 4 night's work if he comes in to help 😆
I made a huge financial faux pas after a few beers regarding GCSE results. This time last year it cost me 500 quid. Afterwards i jokingly said if you get 3 a's at a level it's a grand. 1 year away and she got an a in a/s maths last week and is predicted 3 a's now.
Brilliant 😳
My eldest has done well I'm massively proud of her. She use to struggle with maths but passed with ease, amazing what a good teacher can do.
amazing what a good teacher can do.
And therein lies the truth. I still think prp for teachers would be a good thing because most of them genuinely want to see the kids do their utmost best. My daughters maths teacher has always believed in her and has pushed her to achieve.
That's exactly it. She hit on as the same teacher transferred from the middle school at the same time as the area switched to 2 tier, he's never doubted her ability. He supported all his pupils even wrote individual study plans following their mocks. Just outstanding.
We paid for my son to have a private lesson for maths one night a week ..a teacher friend ..without whom I'm convinced he would have failed ..
He maybe doesn't realise the debt of gratitude he owes her ..but we do .
She was the first person I rang this morning ..

I'm against PRP for teachers because most of them genuinely want to see the kids do their utmost best.
My clever Niecey got a couple of 9's, 8's, 7's and one 5 in Maths which was better than expected. She cried a lot, I've been welling up. She doesn't have the best home life (nor the worst) and wasn't looking too good at the start of GCSEs - she done very good.
