I want to get phycics and maths A level just for personal achievement initially.

Do i need to get gcse first?

I only have O levels and haven't studied since i left school.

I really love the above subjects but am realistic that i'll struggle.

Whats the best way to go about this? Any stories to inspire me?

My ex wife took A levels in her early late 30"s and then did a degree whuxh she finished at 45. She had left school at 17. A good friend of mine just retired at 60 and is doing a Uni course on International Terrorism. Its never too kate to learn !

You've time to research and prepare as courses will start in September. Look at council night school to see what they offer and whether you can do GCSE in a year. You can also enquire about any full time options if you are able to stop working. They will also advise whether you have to / they recommend doing GCSE first (if younhave O levels they should not require it). If you haven't studied simce school you might want to do a bit now, see if you can join a course in something now to prepare yourself / re-learn how to study

Good luck

You don't need GCSE, no.
Look at past papers at Aqa and Edexcel boards to see what's involved.

Go for it. I did a level Italian at 40. Now 55 and thinking of GCSE Spanish. No education is pointless.

Be aware the govt has slashed the adult skills budget so lots of courses have been dropped due to financial viability! Distance learning is prob the best way to go! At my old college GCSEs evening courses in Biology were viable but there weren't enough people to put on a physics evening course!

I would suggest open university, they have lots of short courses and pre degree courses in physics which may be just right for your interest! Unless you want to go through ucas and apply for uni the A level physics course may not be terribly interesting or useful to you! Not trying to put you off, I was an assistant principal running the science dept at a college and taught physics a level so I love the subject but as an adult learner I would go with the OU....,....personally I am v tempted by the astronomy courses they offer 🙂

Great idea IMO.

Wouldn't have thought you need much other than attitude and time and basic ability?

Let us know how you get on.
