I hope it holds up, I don't think Fox News Lite really adds much to this country.

Nowhere near enough - it's political propaganda dressed up as a news channel - needs it's broadcast license revoking.

I agree.

However, I think given the financial losses they will move to YT, in part to reduce costs and also to evade regulation easier.

TBH fines that barely register as a tickle let alone a slap on the wrist (~9 months after the event) aren't much of a "precedent" TBH.

What have they learned from the whole exercise?

That OffCom will take ages to extract some loose change, several months after they push out the propaganda, it's just another overhead for their deep-pocketed backers to cover.

OffCom need to recognise the whole point of GBN isn't to be a profitable news channel, its to relay RW messaging and narratives to the hard of thinking, ultimately to help sculpt public opinion, and affect political structures that support the sort of grasping bastards that fund it...

Great work Regulator if you could just do the same sort of thing but faster and harsher it might have some effect...

Moreover it doesn't even need people actually watching it, it's designed to generate a steady stream of easily clippable shareable moments that can be posted and shared on social media, Whatsapp etc.

Basically a disinformation and radicalization factory.

Paul Marshall, one half of GBN's ownership, has certainly been on a bit of a journey since falling out with the Lib Dems over Brexit. , the other half of the money is the Legatum institute which is a front for Vulture Capitalist Christopher Chandler, a man so legendarily litigious that let's just say he's worth a google.

Very deep pockets but if an organization continues to break the rules the fines ten to come faster and get bigger a limit wil be reached eventually, let's hope they have the balls to do it despite all the bad faith squealing.

Just a co-incidence that Ofcom has finally done something substantial following a change of gov't?

Beeb also has a story showing gb news £42m loss last year, so £100k is next to nothing.

Yeah reminds me a bit of some of the faithless elector laws in the US* where a thousand dollar fine seems a positive bargain for the return on investment

*for the nongeeks. In the US the electoral college votes for the president as directed by their state votes. The rules per state vary but in some cases if an individual elector votes against the state vote then its automatically discarded, several more it still counts without penalty and then some it is illegal but the vote still counts. So in theory you could get your electors to go "yeah they voted 100% for x but we are choosing y" and so y gets chosen as president.
