Has anyone here got any experience on either the Weber Spirit or Genesis Range ? There are some good deals to be had at present, I was a gas grill snob until my brother recently moved back from Oz with his and converted me for convenience of cooking kids sausages etc outside on a near daily basis.

Id like to get something that can be used to do joints with the Rotisserie, was just wondering if anyone has one already and if the Genesis is worth the extra £££ in the long run.

I had a gas grill at my parents

Above the gas oven

Used to light it with long matches.

How ever have a Weber q2200 bbq and it makes awesome food 🙂

I've had a Genesis for 5 years. Bought when I was living in Texas, and used three times a week at least for 1 year. It gets used a lot less now I've moved back to Aberdeenshire, but is withstanding rain and snow without any complaints.

Lost a bit of paint at the back, just under where the 'tub' sits in the frame. Just too much heat made it flake off. But you can't see it and it never got worse. That's all of note really. No rust. No broken bits. Just sweet flame grilled food.

Get a smoke box and some wood chips. And then learn from the king: Meathead.

Cheers, Ill be investing in Meathead's book.

I didnt dare call it a BBQ on here not being charcoal.

I guess the question is do I spend the extra for a genesis or settle on a spirit and put the money towards a share in grainfather....

Spirit is very popular over here. I know at least 2 dozen folks with them. Probably helped by the two largest local supermarkets having a little price war a few years ago. 😆

Only downside is i think the current 2 burner one only comes with the steel grill. Need the 3 burner to get the cast/porcelain one.

Ours is still going strong after plenty of use.

Used weber q series a lot, perfect bbq. Just ignore the haters they will still be procrastinating about what charcoal to smoke enhance the burnt flavour with... Get the one with the temp gauge

Whilst I personally own a Genesis and rate it very highly, I've seen the Spirit after several years of use and it also looked robust. But BBQing turned into a bit of a hobby for me, so just like bikes, I can convince myself the extra cost of the Genesis is worth it. If you do go down the route of following Meathead's advice, then you'll find yourself using a 2 zone cooking technique. In which case the extra surface area of the Genesis is very handy, because you will only be able to use half of it (one half with the burner and wood chips, one half for a water tray and your meat).

Whatever you do, just don't get one with a stainless steel hood. It's crap stainless steel (not much Cr) and starts spotting with rust quickly

fanatic278 - I think you have summarised what im looking to do, so you have quite possibly swayed me to the Genesis.
