Way to much due to the stupid way the governmnet owned companies where given away to to foreign companies, that make massive profits, cant fix leaks quickly, and pay shareholdersto much.

no foreign ownership at privatization, IIRC all foreign ownership signed off under the former Labour government
profits are regulated, write to these people if you think they are doing a bad job www.ofwat.gov.uk

cant fix leaks quickly, and

quicker than in NI or Scotland which are still quangoes

pay shareholdersto much.

Dwr Cymru is owned by a debt financed not for profit company

3 issues.

1) We pay no more than anywhere else in the wold with unsubsidised fuel (so we'll miss out the middle east and venezuela)
2) Just like BP isn't Brittish, EDF, GDF, Exxon Mobil, Shell, ConocoPhilips, etc arent exactly national companies anymore.
3) The networks are owned by UK companies like transco (or whever replaced it), or the water companies (which are generaly British). Electricity doesn't leak, gas leaks generaly make the news for killing people, and last I checked BP can get £1million out of a hole in the ground in Hampshire, I'd like to see a water company do that, I doubt think they make disproportionate ammounts of money!

In a two bed semi (but poorly insulated) we pay around 150 a year for water (metered) and about 800 for gas and electric.

That's for two people

150 Pound a year for metered ****in water!!!!! Do you ever wash?? Ours is 400!!! And what really grates me is the stoopid bint who rented this house before I bought it, asked for the meter to be put in, every ****er else on the street pays a fixed rate and uses what they want 👿

We do wash, admittedly often I shower at work during the week, but we wash bikes and water the garden at home.

Fixed rate would be 350 a year for our property, but after living in new properties with meters fitted knew it would be loads cheaper for us to be on a meter.

Either way, we all pay too much.

But, as mentioned, we are all too lame to do anything about it...

Either way, we all pay too much

someone has to pay for all the subsidies for "green" technology

8%-10% return on investment for photovoltaics, yes you are paying for it

you also have to pay for historic cronic underinvestment in the water sector, this has regional variations hence the difference in charges

You keep telling yourself that....

If its that easy and theres that much of a gap in the market, why not et up your own water company?
