Just saw a headline on the front page while getting my lunch suggesting it's time for him to be sacked from match of the day...
Now back at the office to have a Google to see what crimes he's committed.. apparently he put a compassionate tweet out about migrants being human beings, something this excuse of a paper appears to suggest is all lies?

What strange times these are...

Welcome to Brexit Britain! Where you don't have to pretend you're not a nasty, hate-filled little racist any more. It's great!

I'd better get in early then.

Even with all I've seen of this country in the last few months, I'm still incredulous at the reaction to Lineker's tweets. Some people really ought to be ashamed of themselves.

He's been acused of lying, but 'The Sun' - that's right, 'The Sun'... seriously. 'The Sun' is takign the moral high ground on speaking the truth...

My prediction:

He won't be sacked by the BBC, or Walkers or whoever else.

He will be more popular than before as people who have zero interest in Football now know who he is.

Is may even be a turning point, these things are often a seemingly unimportant turn of events, because it's argument number 9992034 or whatever that's line has been drawn between Brexit and Remain but the right have ****ed up, because it's an argument only the truly arsehole me, me, me right can be against him on and they've picked a fight with GARY LINEKER, I hate football, I'm not English but even I know the man can usually do no wrong in the public eye, they might as well have picked a fight with the Late Terry Wogan, David Attenborough or David Jason - they think it's all over, it is now.

In a weird way I'm kind of glad to see The Sun showing how ugly it can really be.

They're not going to be doing themselves any favours at all in the long run and will regret this, I think.

edit: well said PJ - just what I was thinking, it could be a tipping point for a lot of people.

BBC Sports presenter getting involved in politics.

Really? Or is it a BBC sports presenter showing a bit of compassion towards those less fortunate than himself by using social media as a platform to do so. Tear gas and demolishing migrant camps being the obvious solution to the problem in France which no doubt your right-wing arse is all in favour of.

Gosh, another ex footballer / celebrity calling for compassion and more help for refugees whilst reportedly engaging in aggressive tax avoidance schemes that ultimately enable them to paying anything towards this.

You know, i can empathise with and understand political and social views from across the spectrum, even if i don't agree with them. I can work out where the ideas come from and the structure (educational, financial, social, media and so on) that led to people developing these ideas. And appreciate why they think in such a different way to me.

But some people are just arseholes or imbeciles.

Or both.

This can be spun out for much longer than that, and it'll be the fault of all 17.4 million people who voted for Brex...

You'll be disappointed, then. Murdoch has been recorded to say that he loves the UK government as they listen to him, whereas the EU Parliament don't. I think Murdoch is loving Brexit, and the scenario couldn't have worked out better if he'd planned it himself [ 😯 ]

Also utterly baffled by this. Saw something saying he was "defending" comments he's made and wondered how much of a clanger he'd dropped. Then had to read the article twice to make sure I hadn't missed something. Totally absurd.

Have to admit I'm quite enjoying the "kids who look like adults" side-project. We'd not have let 15-year-old The Rock into the country, that's for damn sure.

This whole "story" is sick tbh, the lineker thing is just a bit of side-poison, don't get distracted

As above, saw the headline and thought he'd said something offensive..

Then I saw the tweet...can't quite work out what hes done wrong?

I'm not convinced that all the 'kids' are actually 'kids' (and I don't think its should matter either given what they've been through) but thats not really the point.

This country has gone to the dogs..

I think you mean freelance broadcaster. I also think you mean being involved in human crisis not politics. Just because politicians and governments are involved it does not make it exclusively political.

Got to say that Linekar is playing a blinder on this whole thing, and running rings around that vile Murdoch rag. He tweeted yesterday that he'd follow the Suns lead, and apologise in 25 years.

I' sure theyve realised by now that they picked a fight with the wrong person this time

Linker has always struck as one of the minority of footballers who has a few brain cells, and seems a decent bloke. I can't help thinking the BBC are secretly laughing away behind the scenes.

It's about time someone stood up to the Sun,amd other such rags. Unfortunately, it's not going to be anyone who can dish out any form of sanction.

He is my MP who I have met several times. He is a bit of a worm to be fair. A staunch Brexit supporter despite his constituency voting overwhelmingly to Remain. He also has a Hungarian wife. The fact that Hungary is moving very rapidly to the extreme right probably has nothing to do with his opinions either.

I reckon the Sun will do a full demolition job on him, various mutterings abound that he was/is a bit of a shagger and they'll probably go for that next.

It's what they do. They are hateful and they revel in unlocking the worst parts of narrow minded bigots' tendencies. A lot of 'ordinary folk' read the Sun because it is easy. It doesn't challenge them to think about their views, it provides an affirmative comfort blanket of hateful prejudice.

Sadly, Brexit and the Sun are symptoms of the same national malaise.

It amazes me that people who've never given a second thought to the BBC's guidelines on conflicts of interest suddenly become bar-stool experts when someone tweets something nice about refugees.

BBC Sports presenter getting involved in politics.

This doesn't mean anything. It's just a bit of half-remembered, half-invented pub-bore "wisdom" that has passed into the minds of simpletons as if it's an actual thing.

You could try reading the BBC's guidelines on conflicts of interest and make a judgement for yourself. I just have done, so I'll save you the trouble and assure you that Gary Lineker has not breached any BBC guidelines. Not even close.
