Having recently acquired a Garmin Fenix 7X watch will I need to manually change the the time when I travel across time zones or will it do this automatically?
Â
Thanks
It can be set to do it automatically.Â
It's automatic, although I'm pretty sure it's from Garmin Connect on your phone rather than the watch itself. Certainly mine changes when I fly to London, and that's before I've done any GPS based activity.
Just looked on my Fenix 5 (Fenix 7 will be similar). Find the Settings menu, scroll through it to System, then Time. Mine has 3 options, Set Tine, Auto and Sync with GPS.
With mine (a Forerunner 955) it updates 'automatically' - but i think it's only after selecting an activity that starts up the GPS so that it knows where it is in the world.
Â
(Only the 2 options on mines not 3 that Greybeard has on his Fenix 5).
There is also another option of ' time sync' further down the list, 2 places afterÂ
Settings / time / ... time sync.
This has the 2 options (by scrolling down when it has a great map of the world) between phone and GPS
Â
That's not a sleep screen but your "good morning summary". Mine is set to do just the time between 23:00 and 7:00 and I have that summary when my alarm goes off.
To turn off the "Good Morning" feature (also known as the Morning Report) on your Garmin Epix, hold down the "Menu" button, navigate to "Appearance" > "Morning Report" and then toggle "Show Report" to "Off" to disable the feature.Â
Key points:
Access settings: Hold the "Menu" button.
Navigate to Morning Report: Go to "Appearance" then "Morning Report".
Toggle off: Select "Show Report" and switch it to "Off".Â
Â
You can change it. I leave my Fenix on all the time to capture stats overnight (for what they are worth) but the screen dims overnight and doesnt react and light up when I move my wrist etc when asleep.
Had it on for over 5 days since it's last charge and it's on 69%
Â
How do they manage this when Samsung get 2-3 days max and Apple seemingly around a day?Â
Â
(Yes, I'd assume it's actual battery capacity, but it's not a huge watch to cram it into)Â
Â
Impressed anyway
The apple and Samsung do a whole lot more as they are a smart watch with fitness stuff and the Garmin is a fitness watch with smart features...
I briefly had a Pixel watch which could scarcely make it through a day even with pretty much every feature turned off. It was flashier for sure but I can't think of anything so much smarter about it's features, nothing I miss at least since replacing with a Garmin.

No this will be done automatically.

Some parts of the UI aside, I'm struggling to think of anything I do with my Samsung's that the Garmin isn't doing
I have just bought the Instinct 2. Getting a bit annoyed by the Kudos notifications from Strava. It does give me the option to Block App, but if I do that will it also block the ride/workout uploads too?? Â

No, it will just block the notifications.Â
I've done it on mine so I only see calls, texts, calendar items, WhatsApps and security camera alerts. I don't need to know on my watch that "Photos has a new memory for you".
Â
There is a screen somewhere in the app that lets your allow/block notifications for apps so you can do them all at once rather than waiting for a notification to block.
