As above, has anyone had a go with one/got one?
The spec looks comparable to the GoPro 3, but already has an LCD screen built in - very tempting.

Looks bulky and heavy to me. Just get a GoPro!

No easy way of chest mount. It's what let's down the cameras that take this form factor.

From what I can tell from a CRC comparison blog they weigh more or less the same

True. I think Garmin's equivalent is a shoulder mount (attached to a chest harness), it does look a little unwieldy. What's swinging it for me at the moment is the price, amazon has the basic model (sans GPS) for £220, the cheapest GoPro3 black is £280

So your comparing a basic Virb against top of the range gopro?

The Drift Ghost HD is a similar format to this and gets good reviews.

The thing I like about the Drift is that you can mount it on a wonky surface and then rotate the lens to get the picture in the right orientation - i.e. you can mount it 'vertically' then rotate the lens 90 degrees so you are still in landscape mode, not portrait. I don't think the GoPro lets you do this.

I like the sound of a shoulder mount, does it have a laser pointer too?

Looks that way yep. The more basic GPH 3 models have fewer resolution/frame rate settings, the middle of which is still £20 more expensive.

The firmware update for my Garmin Edge 810, released a couple of days ago allows me to remote control a Virb if I had one. 😕

+1 We decided to get a camera a few years ago and went with the Contour as the image quality looked better at that point. However we soon realised that form factor made mounting tricky in anything else but goggle mount. GoPro have the market with quality footage and the hundreds of mounting accessories.

The Virb is compatible with the gopro mounts, well in the cases the form factor allows.

The Virb elite has built in GPS, so you can get you speed and elevation info on the video and time and date stamp as well
