You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hopefully somebody on here will know the answer, I've checked both MFP and Garmin help and can't find a definitive answer.
If you have Garmin connect and myfitnesspal linked, it gives extra calories for steps. It also gives extra calories for cycling and running as you would expect.
What I am not sure is if it is double counting the running steps when calculating the calorie allowance? It obviously adds to the step count while running and you get additional calories for these steps but is it smart enough to know that it has already given me calories for the run?
Its a Garmin Fenix 5 if it matters.
I have a Garmin Vivofit and it does have an 'auto recognise' function, but to record more details you have to activate the GPS function, and then it doesn't 'double count'. NOt sure whether that's the same with the Fenix though.
Running will increase heart rate so more effort. It doesn't double count but it calculates calories based on effort (as well as steps).
AFAIK it doesn't double count.
Shouldn't be eating those extra calories anyway, so shouldn't matter 😉
Ok, thanks chaps.
HobNob, I am always weary of how many calories it "gives" me for activities but I use it to build in a few beers and a take away every now and then
