So I've had a vivoactive 3 for a few years and it's been fine. Of late it's been throwing an error with altitude, nothing serious just a jaggy profile and reading 300m of climb in a 70m climb run. It's throws the spikey profile from about halfway. Anyway nothing else is affected.
Messaged Garmin to see if there's a fix/reset, tried what they suggested and no difference. they said to message if it worked or not. Within 5mins of me saying it didn't work but it's no biggy they send a message with a link for a replacement. One watch well out of warranty I'm very impressed.

That's my experience of them too, more than once.

Superb.

My Edge 205 fell of my bike and got crushed by a car. 100% my fault - I messaged them on someone's recommendation from here and they did me a refurb as a replacement for something like 1/3 full price.

My tacx turbo broke, out of warranty, Garmin said they'd replace it but no longer offered that model so I got an upgrade.

I suppose they're massive with massive margins and able to justify the good publicity

How did people message them?

I've tried through their support portal a couple of times, and never had such good results.

Got my son a vivosmart 4 last Christmas, the nickel in the bracelet clasp caused a rash. Garmin exchanged it for a Venu Square which has a plastic clasp at 50% discount.

Maybe I’ll speak to them then - bezel has fallen off my Vivosmart 4 after 18 months…

Just be careful with Garmin if the item is fairly new, because if you make a warranty claim with them you have to expressly give up your statutory rights.

I once killed a man with a Garmin and they paid all the fees for a shady lawyer who got me off on a technicality.

My experience wasn't so good.

The GPS module packed up in my forerunner 35 the week before the warranty ran out. I did enough diagnosis to prove that.

Their Customer service guy talked me through some slightly less sophisticated diagnosis work which proved what I already knew - it was the GPS module. It was a waste of my time but I understand why they have to do it, but it irked me since the customer service guy knew very little about his subject.

So then they promised me a 4 day turn around on the replacement - it took 15 days. 😡

Finally I recall chasing them repeatedly to acknowledge receipt of the broken watch.

I'm also a bit narked at it failing at around time then warranty ran out - it's a sample of 1 but made me wonder if they spec the components to last just a fraction over the warranty period. (Given the stories in this thread perhaps not.)

Poor, I thought.

oob so irked because Garmin guy went through their procedures from script/screen to trigger a replacement which took a bit longer than they said?

It's right there in their Terms and Conditions, which will have been signed off by their legal team.

If you want to return something faulty to Garmin, you can send it back under their warranty but you have to pay the shipping costs (for a turbo trainer this can be approaching fifty quid or more), or you can ask for your statutory rights to be respected at which point they will go down the "it's more than six months old so you need to supply an independent report showing the fault already existed blah blah blah."

Hi
did those of you who've had replacements from Garmin have the receipt or proof of purchase for the product?
Just asking as i have been in discussion with Garmin UK about a UT800 smartlight that Garmin pushed a firmware update through for a few months ago (via my Edge head unit) which 'bricked' the light. I have been unable to supply a receipt (can't even find where i purchased it) so they have rightly said they can't do anything.
I am happy with that (serves me right for not saving the receipt) but i have asked Garmin if they will re-install the firmware if i send the unit to them and they hae stated they can only replace! They have not answered my 'well what do i do with the light now?' question.
Have had quite a few issues with Garmin over the years ('bricked' 520, batteries expired just after the warranty period, inaccurate recording, fancilful stats on Garmion Connect etc) so am now looking to move away from them.
But i'm interested to know whether you had to provide proof of purchase etc and your experience of dealing with them
thanks
Simon

Offered me £100 for a refurbished 735xt after my screen developed a black spot.

Went for a Huawei GPS smar****ch for £40 instead - much better watch fot what I actually need and the smartphone app is lightyears better than Garmins.

I can't believe I paid around £300 for the 735!
