Very happy with my Instinct Solar but as I'm about to start being back in office/business meetings shortly I am considering changing it for something a bit more formal looking. Fenix 6 seems logical, but I don't want anything any more chunky than the Instinct. Is the 6S a good shout, or too small ? or other Garmin ideas ?
Withings Scanwatch? Not as capable but smart for the office, currently on offer and I'd keep the Garmin for the weekends
Formal? It's a watch ffs Iain 😂
If anyone judges you for wearing a sports watch then they're a bit of a walloper tbh.
Normal watch on one wrist and a fitness band like a Vivosmart 4 on the other? That's what I do anyway.
I use a vivoactive 4 for such duties. Pretty well priced with discounts available. Lovely clear display and the touchscreen is great for day to day use.
I use a Fenix for this very reason - smart enough to go with shirt & tie etc but also a proper sports watch.
I can’t comment on size as that’s personal preference I guess and your wrist size will dictate that.
+1 I was in exactly the same boat and went for a Fenix 6 exactly for those reasons.
Size-wise, seeing them in the flesh helps. I ended up ordering the 6x and 6 to compare and went with the latter. I'm not a large-wristed gent but the 6 really isn't huge. For me the 6x got in the way a bit too much doing things like typing but YMMV of course
cheers for all feedback, nobeer, fair point and I may not change it for that very reason, but keen to see views. Will go have a look at 6 and 6S methinks
You can swap the Fastfit(?) straps round in a matter of seconds on the fenix, say from a leather / black metal strap for work to a rubber one for sports just like that!
I'm retired now but in my last year in the office you were the odd man out if you weren't wearing a sports watch. So in addition to what nobeer said, you'll be fine with the instinct - unless it's the orange one.
I wear my instinct pretty much all the time in the office at work and have done for about the last 2.5 years.
Yes it can be a bit bulky under some shirt cuffs but generally not a problem.
Although I’ve recommended a V4, I wear my (blue) instinct and F6 regularly to work.
I wouldn’t care what watch folk wore in a work place, formal or not.
Keep the Garmin and change the strap to the most lurid brightest colour you can. Can't beat a proper sports watched juxtaposed against the corporate suited drone look 😜
In all seriousness, if you like the watch just keep it. I've worn bright orange straps that have clashed horribly with my choice of shirt colour (but I have no dress sense).
Agreed, and as the OP works in Glasgow, perfectly matched with a short sleeved shirt, and 20 club king size in the chest pocket.
^^^^ haha 🙂 These replies have given me a good chuckle ! I'm just gonna keep my Orange Instinct and be bold ! nobeer, my days of spending time in Glasgow office are gone now, it will be a combination of home working and travel for meetings further afield every other week or so.
Nae luck.
