If I'm out touring, is there a way to create a route on Cycle Travel (for example) save it and then download it onto my Garmin Etrex 30?
I'm using an iPhone.
I bought the attached lead to connect my iPhone to the Garmin. When I plugged it all in the Garmin lit up (like it does when you plug it into a computer) however, I couldn't find the Garmin device ony iPhone (so I couldn't transfer the route I had created)
Any ideas?
Can you sync from the Garmin connect app? If so, download the file as a .gpx and open it on your phone, select Garmin Connect and it will upload as a course.
You (hopefully) can then send the course to the etrex and then sync the device and that is it.
I've got the Garmin connect app. But I can't seem to find the etrek 30 when searching for a device (maybe because it's not Bluetooth)
Etrex 3s don't sync. with Garmin Connect or work with its .fit files (at least they didn't when I had one).
This is a bit of a stab in the dark as I don't have an IPhone & don't use Cycle Travel, but I'll have a go.
I assume that Cycle Travel will have the option to download a route as a GPX (on Android this would probably end up in the Downloads folder).
Plug the Etrex into the IPhone. It's been years since I had an eTrex but I seem to remember that you had to select "Mass Storage" from the unit. If you can get the eTrex to operate in "Mass Storage" mode then it effectively become a drive.
Using Android you should be able to use the Files App to copy/cut the gpx file, navigate to the appropriate folder on the eTrex (I can't remember which one it is though) and paste it in.
I'm sure Apple has an equivalent app, but I'm stuck if the eTrex isn't going to play as a mass storage device.
Possibly worth a try.
-- Edit --
I think the folder on the Garmin is just Garmin/GPX
I assume that the Apple doesn't have a microSD slot or maybe a plug-in adapter? If it does you could transfer files that way.
Couldn't see that option
However, I've downloaded the gxp file from cycle travel. Then found the file on my iPhone, clicked it and selected Move.which I then searched 'garmin' then I was inside my Garmin etrex files...found the file and pressed Copy
Worked!
The lead for the iPhone is 2 parts
1 part - iPhone charger style plug and the other side a USB style.
2 part - USB style and the other side the bit that sticks into the Etrex
Yeah Garmin etrex predates Garmin connect by about a decade. Still a great tool.
If the etrex isn't playing in mass storage I would get a micro SD card reader and do it that way
I just use Garmin connect to my watch for on the fly nav. Other wise I leave home with my planned route on the etrex.
