This kind of a fenix 7 with worse battery life but brighter display
If this isn’t a good deal I’ll return it
Seems pretty good to me. Another 10% off if you sign up to the mailing list. Tempting… will it still be there after pay day…?
It's been on and off for a few months. Bargain.
The newsletter 10% doesn't work on this watch and neither do the codes that customer services give out in lieu of the newsletter ones not working (they did to begin with a few months ago but not any more).
Yeah they’ve been this price since Black Friday at least. They sold out at the beginning of November and my bank balance breathed a sigh of relief until they came back in stock at the same price in December. Got one then, looks proper dapper with a nice brown ‘leather’ Amazon strap.
Damn, paid 980 for mine, Ti one with the leather strap September last year with blue light discount.
FWIW I get about 12-14 days from mine with the AOD, 25-28 days with wake by gesture and my average GPS usage.
Which is still phenomenal tbh, the display is fantastic, and to charge it only once a fortnight or once a month hasn't been any issue for me, just gets plugged in for 90 minutes when I'm sat at the office desk having 3hrs worth back-to-back meetings every Thursday morning.
Bought one of these when it was the same discounted price at the end of December. It is miles better than a fenix and I used a fenix 6x pro solar for a few years, wouldn’t go back to a fenix now.
Total bargain.
It looks like an old Fenix 3
How is it better than a Fenix please, in the real world?
Dcrainmaker is the place to
Look. But it’s just the display that is different
I read a 2 min Tech radar review, a 2yo device with a brighter display and consequently less battery life than my 6 pro solar…. I’m out.
He didn’t think a lot of it for measurements like heart rate, oxygen saturation or sleep tracking - worrying that it was so different than the Fenix. Good for user interface, mapping and gps tracking.
These are a bargain. They are the next gen to the fenix 7 really. Having an amoled screen is what the 965 has and what the fenix will have in next release for sure. You'll get the same features and a battery life that will last well over a week. My 965 lasts 2 weeks and i train 2-3 times everyday (not always gps though). 2 of my mates have this watch. No regrets.
I saw this earlier in the week - does this specific model deffo come with pre loaded maps like the Fenix 5x? I was struggling to find a definitive answer.

That’s fine. Mine will be taken off at bed time every night. It’s the making I paid for.

From memory it doesn’t. It’s the 32Gb models that do. This is 16Gb and you download a region after purchase
Re the measurements mentioned above. I wore my fenix 6x pro solar 247, so have a tonne of data to refer to.
My epix is getting very similar readings, gps tracking has been spot on every time, swimming sessions recorded perfectly etc. no issues at all.
It feels just as accurate as the much older fenix 6 models. The reports and data visualisations that you get on the epix, that were never available on the fenix, are really good. No need to open garmin connect on the phone anymore.
And re maps, just had a look at mine and yep maps pre installed.
Battery life is 2 weeks or so, without doing anything to the watch setup, with one workout per day and all day tracking.

I guess you could be right, but that doesn't really make any sense. The only difference between a fenix and an epix is the screen. So either keep the fenix for those people (like me) who actually prefer a MIP screen or just drop the fenix from the lineup if there aren't enough people like me. Fitting a fenix with an AMOLED screen would just result in two identical watches with different names.
I paid £365 for a Fenix 6 pro solar a year ago. I thought that was a good price but this looks awesome. If I could justify it I'd buy one at this price tomorrow.
Tis a good price just be aware it's not the latest Pro version.
I replaced my Fenix 7 with (the non pro) one. Paid similar to the PSA. The screen is so much better, far more useful on the bike for me. Mine was loaded with OS maps and it's way easier to manipulate through touch.
Same as above, can't say the stats shifted at all between F7 and Epix 2 (Other than when I stopped drinking alcohol!)
When I'm on site with customers, I have it in glance mode. Get about the same or a bit more life than Fenix 7. Seems even more battery efficient with GPS. Otherwise have it on AO (off at night) and get about 7-8 days with a 2-3 GPS rides (one long one) and a few non GPS enabled activities.
I had a fenix 7 pro and changed it for an epix 2 pro . For me the epix is amazing . The screen is the main difference . I can actually read this one . I was struggling with the fenix whe. Running to read the smaller metric’s . No issues with this one .
- it also does the red/green shift stuff which is cool in low light .
The maps pre installed are only the base maps, but you do get the full maps included, they’re just not pre installed you have to do it either over wifi or using Garmin express. Wifi takes forever, express merely takes ages.

Word of warning, there’s no multiband gps on this one, but I’ve found the standard gps loads better than the Fenix 6 pro
It’s a great watch and it’s still getting the latest updates, I’ve on the beta program so have nap tracking and sleep coach turned up this last week or so. If you can afford the new one it’s obviously even better, I wish it had the torch, but I can’t afford £800 on a watch so this will do for me until the pros or whatever is next comes down to my price range.

If you want ultimate battery life though, mips screen is the way to go. I only get 4 days from mine with an hour or so workout per day with AOD on, but I’ve always been on the low side of battery compared to what others seem to get.
John Lewis still have the Titanium Sapphire version on sale - not as good a price as the original PSA but it's a good bit lighter, has the crystal screen, more memory (32GB) with maps pre installed and multi band GPS.
I jumped from a 5 plus and love it, it's a big upgrade for readability, mapping and weight.
The Pro gives a dedicated torch and ECG functions and a better HR sensor, which I decided wasn't worth paying £250-£300 more for.
I bagged the sapphire epix from John Lewis at that bargain price above in the link
Moved from an Apple Watch and wow what a difference, this is a proper sports watch for training. Pair with my HRM and I’ve now got much better info on my general health albeit not putting 100% trust in the stats!
Battery for 1st week has been outstanding esp compared to the AW.
From full charge on Sunday and since then:- x3 runs 14.6m (listening to music from the watch)
x2 rides 38milea
few walks
Wrist gesture watch face (even tho the screen is brilliant don’t see the news for AOD)
Loads of phaff playing with setting etc and watch faces
Currently on 42% / 7d remaining battery
Pretty bloody good imo! Esp compared to the 24hr AW battery
Screen is leagues above standard Fenix - makes that look like a Spectrum 48k 😂

No, it looks like a watch 😀
Ok, I know I’m swimming against the tide here. Most people prefer the screen on the epix and that’s fine. But there are still some of us that prefer a truly always on passive screen on a watch and don’t actually want a mini phone screen on their wrist. Each to their own though. Only time will tell if there are enough of us weirdos around for Garmin to keep the fenix in the lineup. But some of us will miss it if it does go.

Even my first gen Instinct has multi GPS, and according to Garmin so does the Epix.
Definitely has multi band gnss.
Standard epix 2 doesn't have multi band GPS
You need to go for the sapphire one to get multi band GPS
Bit misleading on the Garmin product page as even if you select the standard edition gen 2 with gorilla glass it states this under product features.
SATIQ™ TECHNOLOGY
Multi-band GNSS with SatIQ technology ensures the best positioning accuracy in any environment while also optimising the device’s battery life.
Yes it's confusing, on the overview section of the Garmin web page it mentions Satiq tech for the non pro but on the detailed specs section it's just gps/glonass. As usual DC Rainmaker has all the detailed info, i.e. non pro no Satiq, pro with Satiq. It's not the first time I've noticed this kind of error on the Garmin site.
I think it's even more...nuanced. The Epix 2 Sapphire version has Satiq...the steel standard version not. (plus Ti body, more storage and 'better' glass).
Although tempted I think I am going to plump for an Apple Watch 9, if you disable all the superfluous stuff not needed for health monitoring then you can stretch the battery life out quite a bit, and after studying videos from the quatified scientist the multiband GPS in the Epix doesn't seem to be an awful lot better, or any better, than the one in the apple watch.
And the 41mm is a lot smaller for accomodating mtb gloves, etc.
