[Closed] Garmin Connect, iPhone and Apps Access

I've recently changed from Android to iPhone and am really struggling to get Connect / Fenix 6 set up in the way I want.

For instance I want to get my work calendar (which is in Outlook) to show appointments in my widgets, but nothing else from Outlook. Email notifications were from my gmail account, and personal calendar was Google. In Android it was dead easy to give permission from the App to Connect (e.g. Calendar > Outlook & Google) and add as many apps in Connect as I wanted.
However in iOS when I go to the Garmin Connect settings, there appears to be only a limited number of Apps that Garmin can access. I've tried doing it the other way round by trying to give access to Connect from the App, but again the list is fixed.

Is the additional access to other Apps hidden away in some really obscure part of iOS (like Health Routines / Fitness Focus) to make my life easier, or does the tailoring of notifications I'm wanting only work with the iOS proprietary Apps (e.g. email / calendar) which again I'm struggling to set up as I can't tell it to add another mail account.

Is iOS really that restrictive? if it is, I wish IO'd never changed and struggle to see why so many people think its the Bee's Knees. I'm hoping its just me.

Any pointers or links much appreciated as all my search terms bring up completely unhelpful information.

TIA

I don't think it works in the way you think it does... you don't give 3rd party apps access to other 3rd party apps, IIRC everything's sandboxed.
You also don't just randomly give permissions to apps, they'll request specific permissions only when they need them (which you can approve or deny).
Have you added your Google & Outlook calendars as Accounts to the "Calendar" app? This is what allows other apps e.g. Garmin Connect to access them.

No I’ve done everything as standalone things, like you would in Android, do I need to set up the iOS email and Calendar apps to be fed from gmail and my work accounts, and then Connect accessed the proprietary iOS app?

I’m self isolating so may start everything from scratch

Yes and no... don't worry about the default iOS email/calendar apps, you don't have to use them (I don't cos they're crap 😃) but you DO have to register all your accounts (mail, calendars, etc) with the iOS core before any other apps can access them.
Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts and you can add your gmail/outlook there

Ahhh yes, I think the main problem I have is registering my works outlook account, and as we don’t have standard naming conventions across our estate this is where I gave up last time. Thanks for your help

Ok, got the accounts set up, is it possible to say which mail / calendar accounts give me notifications and which don't?

So for instance I want to see all my appointments in the widgets on my watch, but I only want notifications on my watch from my personal calendar, is this possible or is it all or nothing?

Right, I have to set up a Focus, and may need to set up a calendar per account to get what I really want, this may take some time.

can't say I've ever delved too deep into Notifications and not used Focus at all yet so you're on your own I'm afraid! Be interested to see how you get on though. Also don't know how much depends on how flexible (or not) the Gamin watch widget is?
