Looking to overseed my lawn. Anyone had any experience of certain types/brands of grass seed? Bought seed before and it's not taken and others have been more successful.
It's more important to get the right seed than the right brand - it's usually a mix of rye grass, bents and fescues badged as "luxury" (less rye) "family", "shady" etc. Also if you're over seeding it's best to make sure the seed has good contact with the soil so that means raking out all the moss and thatch before you start.
It's been cut, heavily watered, and all thatch removed. Just needs the bare patches raking to a tilth.
I used Green Velvet Lawn Seed The All Rounder this year and have had good results. Spent a lot of time on the 'prep' though.
Anything with >70% Fescue seed is what you want.
Rake some compost in/over with the seed as well, otherwise it will dry out too quickly or clump together when watered (water twice daily until it germinates and takes root).
