I have a bit of the garden that has sunk. Not much, probably 2 - 3 inches. However it has caused a patio to crack and some flags to sink. There are two massive sycamore trees on rail track land behind my fence and a visiting mate yesterday said that it was highly likely that they were to blame. Any experts in here confirm or deny this?

I think rail track are in the process of felling/removing a few million trees country wide because of the problems they cause . There might even be a tgread on here about it .
A big sycamore will need a lot of water , so yes they could have caused the subsidence .
My missis goes nuts when any sycamore sapling appears in our garden.
she knows her shizzle about these things and says they will get right under the house and cause all sorts of problems.
and they are a pain to get out as that bit is my job!
Sycamores are very much the vermin of the tree world. I'll get in touch with Rail Track and see what happens. Thanks for the advice.
Chances are that the ground has shrunk, causing the cracking, due to the heat/lack of rain this summer - unless the trees have only just appeared this year.
Nah, happened a year or so ago. Trees are mahoosive.
Tree roots extend roughly the height of the tree. If you get the trees chopped down, when the roots rot out you may well get subsidence again. You can't win!
