I have just about defrosted my feet after a bit of spannering about in the garage. Retired Five Tens are not cutting it in the cold. Do garage slippers exist?!

The nearest i can find is Vans MTE slip ons, which would probably be fine but looking at £85 I might regret covering them in brake fluid on the first trip out.

Ideally i would like slip on shoes as i regularly have to pop to garage to get something and can't be bothered to do up laces etc.

I am not buying Sketchers.

Crocs won't be any warmer. JJB or similar fake UGG boots? Just don't let anyone know.

I used to heap scorn on Crocs and those that wear them, but having bought some knock off versions for 4 quid from Aldi for this purpose, I have eaten my words.

Thought they'd just be for the summer, but they're surprisingly warm because you can wear really thick socks without constricting your feet.

Lined Crocs? On the school run (walk), my son's friend's mum was wearing them and it was flippin cold out, she said her feet were toasty.

Ummm. Currently sat in my shed in my month old fleece lined crocs. I really like them, they're comfy and warm and pretty decent for running in at a pinch. Would have to be a real pinch, I don't leave the premises with them. My younger self might hate me, but **** him, he doesn't know he's born.

We have had a new carpet in a bedroom, I've stuck the old one in the garage. It was going to the tip anyway, might as well have a slightly warmer garage this winter.

That and Aldi special buy "crocs" for me. Not toasty, but not noticeably cold

I have some random cheap "camper slippers", they have a sensible rubber sole and soft warm slipper-ish uppers, which could be what you're after? That said, I don't want to drop a spanner on my toes wearing them.

Alternative might be some lock laces in a normal shoe, I love these things, means you can just slip on and off but they still stay on your feet well

I tend to tramp about in these £20 snow Welly things during winter.

They're good in the garage as well as going for a walk on cold days, and pull in easily enough...

Fleecy lined Lidl's cloned Crocs for me. I'm just in from my shed. It is bitter in there at the moment, -2 outside.

I have toasty toes.

Vans do a Croc-adjacent slip-on, as do Merrell, then all you need is a Sherpa fleece type liner, which I’m sure is readily available from an on-line retailer of your choice. I certainly wouldn’t be buying either the Vans or the Merrells for the garage-shed, I’d buy a cheap fleece-lined Croc analogue from somewhere like Lidl, Aldi or similar.

Honestly, those snow welly things from Decathlon are probably the best option, no holes for your feet to get wet, for starters, and honestly why do you care what people think when your feet are dry and toasty?

The retail price is a little hilarious for 'slippers' but my Five Ten Sleuth Slip-Ons have lasted probably 5 years and still look like new. I mainly just use them in the house, or the occasional neighbourhood dog walked when I can't be arsed to deal with the adult world of shoe laces. The soles look like Stealth rubber but really it's hard wearing non-marking rubber. I wouldn't go mountain biking in them even though they are allegedly cycling shoes! Same can be said for the Prime Blue shoes.

I have the original fleece lined crocs as actual slippers, kinda sad they've stopped doing that version as the coverage is better. No holes either.

I am disgusted Crocs! casual shoes, garage slippers, have you lot got no standards. Bike mending requires smart shoes, white boiler suits, a shirt and tie.

Get a grip.

I can finally tell the DPD man I’m not the only one who wears checked “casual wear”.

As above, old pair of crocs are resident by the back door and used by all the family for short trips to outbuildings.

Halfinger make sort of slip-on thick felt clogs with a very well shaped footbed / sole. Very warm - theres decent thickness to the sole so stops cold coming up from concrete floors, don't get smelly. Last ages and ages. Had mine for 7 years and they still look and feel new.

Do garage slippers exist?!

I have DIY slippers, currently Marks & Spencer’s finest…

https://www.marksandspencer.com/corduroy-slippers-with-freshfeet/p/clp60452251#intid=pid_pg1pip36g4r9c4

Could do with a steel toecap version.

Just reminded me of a chief engineer we had when I was a cadet. Never came into the engine room save for the day he took a look from the vantage point of the exhaust manifold, still in his slippers.

Working at height? Industrial safety? What is this?

Lined Crocs, copy version. Something bit more secure? Neoprene garden shoes. Like slipper height wellies.

Or down hut shoes. NF ones are nice but copies are cheaper.

My brother and I had to have a stern conversation with our 92year old father about going up a high stepladder and standing on the top step in his mules whilst helping his grandson fix a solar panel to his van’s roof.

Birkenstock Zermatt wool slippers. Fur lining is optional. Like crocks but with added dignity. Even my sons want a pair!

I'm sure I've seen some fleece lined half-welly boot things around the tinterwebs. Would they be any good?

I have some slip-in garden shoes (like crocs, no strap) from Amazon, they've been fine but because there's no heel strap they fall off during sex, so might have to upgrade to proper crocs.

I'm mostly wearing some sort of barefoot shoe...either a five toed pair, or something like this

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B083FG7LC3

Decent sole, and warm enough to wear without socks. Love them

This is what I've done and works great; i just use whatever shoe is too worn out for out-out use, currently using some worn out Salomon trail shoes

My birkies have been going four years now and they’ve put the prices up quite a bit since I bought them. I’d still replace them when/if they die. My crocks have lost all grip and are pretty dangerous in damp conditions. But the Star Wars adornments are still fine. Removed before autoclave in the dishwasher, of course.

I have thought about lined crocs before. But then go into a sort of schizophrenic breakdown. Like Joaquin Phoenix in Joker.

I've ended up down a camping slipper rabbit hole and found a Keen Howzer

They look a quite durable and might withstand the odd splash of oil, solder, grinder sparks etc. Fortunately my wife has taken pity on me and allowed me to service some forks in the kitchen today.

What is the garage floor?
Maybe get some of those Halfords foam floor tiles put down, to take the edge off.
Or one of those large rubber workplace mats?

I was thinking same, but also a boot i can slip on, cut the lawn in and work in the workshop and on the car.

Sorel Falcon Ridge, they also seem to go by the name Lanner Ridge of late, about £40- £50 online, warm as toast, look ace and a good crepe sole too, so you can go outside in them, my last pair lasted about five years, I'm getting another pair for Christmas.

Lidl are doing Birkenstock rip off slipper things for about a tenner, although they don't look like they'll keep your feet that warm to me.

Glerups slippers with rubber soles for indoor use. Toasty warm and Scandi style. Be a while before I use 85 quid slippers to put the bins out though.

What everyone else has said about Crocs.

Mind you I have to wear the bloody things at work so I’m used to them, and they’re better than most of the alternatives (though the Toffeln ones were OK).

My mother hated my dad using the chain saw in his lined Crocs. He kept bringing the sawdust into the house. She was happy when he swapped to his summer ones as he could shake them out easily. He died with all his toes.

I have lined real Crocs and lined Lidl croc-offs, both excellent for the workshop and post-ride wear.

I recommend Rigger Boots

They look good too, is it the generic name for an Ugg-type boot?

Not at all easy to slip on IME. Tried them last weekend. Fairly snug in the right size so takes a good bit of pullage to get them over the feet.

Definitely not ones for slipping on while exiting the front door with keys in one hand and a pulling dog in the other.

Fiveten Sleuth Slips ons here too, got them cheap a few years ago following a PSA and bought a second set which I’ve got stored away for when this set die as they are so good, best slippers I’ve had. Hard wearing, don’t look like slippers, robust enough to pop out to the shops in etc.

£65 for a pair of Crocs?! That's madness.

£6 for Aldi knock offs last time I got some. Admittedly not all terrain, but they can make it to the end of my drive to put the bin out.

Hey I'm not happy either but I've had a set of 10+ years, which my g/f steal almost constantly (even though I bought her a set) and they work really well. They are my default around the house shoe, so see the most use of any of my shoes, and get thrown in the car to replace muddy bike boots after a ride (shoes in 4WD drive mode obviously). So why not?

Anyone got a lined set, do I need to size up?

If you know anyone with a Defence Discount Card (and I'm guessing blue light card too), you get 30% discount off the Crocs online shop. Though to be fair, you can also get them a fair bit cheaper from other online suppliers too.

In order of warmth and draught proofing I've got Crocs, fluffy lined fake Crocs, Decathlon snow boots, and a house.

I far prefer the last option.
