I've got a concrete sectional garage which has an Apex roof with cement fibre panels fitted, over the last couple of years I've had to replace a couple of panels which have cracked, (replaced with new cement fibre ones). The garage and roof are approx. 17 years old so I can't complain on how long they've lasted.
During this dry spell I've had 3 more panels crack and this has made me think about getting it all replaced as the cost of getting individual panels replaced after a while starts to add up.
Are there any more durable and economical materials for replacing with?
I've got a quote from a company to replace the whole roof with cement fibre which comes to over £1k and they want me to dispose of the old cement fibre panels stating that if they have to dispose then because they can't certify that they don't contain asbestos then they would have to treat them as such and this would add £££ to the bill.
I can sort out the disposal myself but was wondering if there's something more suitable to use also from a disposal point of view?
Thanks
I would be asking what the fibre is? Asbestos?
Where in the country are you? I used a company based between Birmingham and Coventry that removed my old cement asbestos roof and replaced it with a steel one for about £1400. All done in a day.
I put a metal roof on mine easy to diy and wasn't expensive, tough too. More prone to condensation but mine is lined and insulated so that isn't an issue.
I’m Derby based so not too far from Brum/Coventry.
If you have any details it would be appreciated thanks.
It was these guys:
No idea if they'd travel as far as Derby, but even if they don't I'm sure there'll be someone doing something similar nearer you.
Given that an asbestos fibre test is £40-ish I suspect the disposal thing is more down to cost of landfill not fibre presence.
