Garage roof is leaking again even though it was re felted about 3 years ago, considering fixing a corrugated tin roof straight over the top and fixing into the existing rafters, don't suppose anyone has done this?
Had a similar problem last year and planned on doing the same. Instead went for this stuff on recommedation of one of the guys at jewsons.

Think we used 3 tins to do a standard flat roof garage just applied it with a couple of soft sweeping brushes.
Still holding up now.

what is the pitch of the roof, if it is flat i would suggest not going for steel, what happens is you get rust back on the eaves if the pitch is too low, not a structural issue for a while but the aethetics of rusty edges!
Really depends on what you are trying to do, could use a PVC sheet, Sarna/Trocal/etc a bitumen paint, or stee
Do you want to add insulation, over roofing with Steel might be an idea.
Shouldnt be a problem so long it has a pitch to let the water run off.
ALSO ... well worth double skinning with fibreglass insulation between the 2 layers of tin - approx 4" deep. Cuts condensation dripping down to zero AND keeps it a bit warmer ... 8)
I paid to get mine done and it was a fair sized garage - done in a day, old roof disposed of - £450 .... (cash !)
It would be classed as a flat roof but has a decent fall on it, don't want to get it re felted after this one has failed. Not worried really about insulation it's unheated single skin. I was considering just fixing a corrogated metal (probably with some coloured finish) over the existing felt roof, fixing straight thought the existing felt into the board/joists. Condensation might be an issue as I have a tumble dryer in the garage (think this has contributed to the felt roof failing) but my hope is leaving the existing roof in place will mean there is a vented gap between the new metal roof and the felt roof.
^^^ I reckon that would work, the double skin idea being to stop condensation forming when warm air hits the cold tin. Well worth insulating if only to keep the moisture rich air from the dryer away from the tin, itll only cost a few quid so do a proper job .... 😉
Mines knackered so planning on doing myself in summer. Will be using one of those EPDM membranes. There is a place called rubba-seal.co.uk who do kits for DIY. I've had a chat on the phone & they were really helpful. Gave me loads of info. Looking at about £400 all in. What I like is that it's a complete single sheet, no joints. My neighbour had a firm do his last year, for £2k. Chap at rubba-seal said can leave old felt down but to board over with that rough builders ply. Or strip back if needed.
Coatit liberally with some sort of sealant, then cover with small stones, they help to increase drainage and heat absobtion, if we ever do get any more sun.
Thought of the rubber job but I have had bad experiences with them, small hole somewhere water gets in tracks along underneath so you can't tell where it is getting in. My idea is that I will have the felt roof (I know where the leak is) which will be repaired with a patch or some of the paint on sealer stick the metal over the top an I end up with essentially a waterproof metal roof with a back up of the felt roof
Swap you my destroyed shed roof ( and contents) for a midly leaky garage one 🙁
4" plastic sewer drain pipe for the vent for the tumble for starters.
To make sure you have minimal risk of water ingress through the mounting holes for the perspex or metal corrugation why dont you make some basic shallow fall rafters for mounting on the outside of the existing roof to mount your new roof on and just UPVc sheet the new rise backfilling the gap under the new roof with insulation. You can pre-form all the new rafters in the dry at the correct widths for the new sheeting, pre drill everything and first dry day whack it up fast time.
PS I am shit at DIY 😛
