Hi guys, trying to find a tablet for my son to unleash his fortnite gaming on, from what I understand you need a minimum of 4gb RAM to download it. Can anyone recommend a budget tablet that drops into this spec? Any experiences of the amazon variety that seem like good value on paper?

You don't need any amount of RAM to download anything. You might well need 4GB of RAM to run it.

Fortnite's FAQ suggests:

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 (USA variant only)
Samsung Galaxy S10, S10e, S10+
Samsung Galaxy Note 10, Note 10+, Note 10+ 5G
Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+, S20 5G
Samsung Galaxy A90 5G
Samsung Galaxy Tab S6
HONOR View20
Huawei Mate 20 X
Huawei P30 / P30 Pro
Sony Xperia 1, Xperia 5
Xiaomi Mi9
OnePlus 7 Pro
OnePlus 8, 8 Pro
ASUS ROG Phone II
OnePlus 8, 8 Pro [90FPS]

So get one of those.

You'll need 10gb of storage memory juat for the game install.
Runs just fine on my p20 pro. I can't use it but my 9yo does awesome for small screen play.
What about a switch lite rather than a tablet? Infinitely more playable with physical joysticks/buttons.

Nintendo Switch? Proper controller and can play other games as well. Fortnite runs pretty well on it and can plug into the TV when required.

My personal experience of tablet gamimg is that it is very underwhelming. Something with an actual controler is infinitely better,

I recently got a stadia controller and found that going back to physical buttons is great.
For Fortnite I second a switch. Both nephews have them and they are more than happy with them.
