Gamers!
I'm struggling to find the time beyond 'wake up, feed the family, feed the animals, school run, work, school run, children's activities, shop, cook supper & bedtime, chores, really ****ing large glass of red, eat something myself . . . and generally fall asleep on the sofa'.
Which doesn't generally allow much time for open-world games that offer 300+ hours of gameplay. Dammit.
What games floats your boat?
How do you find the time?
EDIT: I don't want to limit the thread to my own narrow agenda. Nor do I want a console hissy fit battle. Just saying. We share more than we are divided by.
Lately, the Talos Principle - easy to dip in and out of as it's a series of puzzles where you play a robot in first person view. Not dissimilar to Portal really, although no portals.
How do you find the time?
I don't have kids.
I don't play at all in the summer when life is busier with work (seasonal job) and more outdoors stuff to do but Lord of the rings shadow of war totally sucked me in since January I've put in 60 hours gameplay. I don't like to play late at night but no kids so generally play a couple of hours after work before dinner.
I don't have kids and I'm really struggling to find time to play that sort of game, currently trying to play the pc reboot of final fantasy xv, it looks beautiful, but in 2 weeks I've only really managed two or three hours on it.
Lately, the Talos Principle
Yes, good game, I quite enjoyed it too, though trying to find all the secret bits is a bugger. Though I didn't have a kid when I played it. Rarely played any games since, though wouldn't classify myself as a gamer at all. Though how many times can I use the word 'though'?
off work with a separated shoulder. been playing shadow runner rpgs. can dip in and out and you wish. can just have it in the background and alt tab to it between other stuff.
Also on Android, I find a lot of time in the karsy to play 2048++ (Alex Lockwood), specifically, the 243 variant, where I am currently 20th in the whole wide world.
I tend to play (on console) stuff that is manageable in 10-15 hours total then just trade it straight in once I'm done. No trying to get 100%, no playing online, just enjoy the story and move on.
Otherwise I like the digital board games, they play fast on iPad or PC so you know it won't take up all evening and if you're playing against a computer player (or a relaxed online one) you can just stop and pick up later if you need to. Still enjoying (badly) playing Twilight Struggle on PC.
I get maybe 30 mins a day, about 3 days a week whilst dinner is cooking.
Im playing Fortnite. It’s s lot of silly fun.
currently I'm obsessing with Counterstrike GO and Fortnite. No kids and crummy weather means I'm getting quite a lot of time in...
Still mostly just PUBG myself, although apparently it's pants on console so not sure what you have? It's easy to dip in and out of but you do need a lot of hours to get used to the various weapons and some rounds can be frustrating (e.g. spend 10 minutes looting good gear and then get sniped without even seeing anyone).
I tried to like Fortnite but I just can't get into it, I'm sure if I played more and got used to the building mechanic it would be a laugh but at the moment it just seems like another set of keys to try and remember.
Going to give World of Tanks another go this weekend to, noticed they've done a major graphics revamp recently and it looks amazing now (I expect I'll get bored pretty fast again once the novelty wears off and the frustration of having 14 mostly useless team mates sets back in). That's not being elitist either, I'm pretty crap at the game but the average skill player makes me wonder how some people even manage to log into the game.
I'm playing battlefield 1 on the laptop but I'm finding myself missing battlefield 4 so also having a few rounds of that as well.
I used to have a games night set aside every week and squad up with friends but the mtb night rides have taken its place so the only time I get these days is early Saturday or Sunday morning for a couple of hours.
Also am thinking of getting xcom but I know it will probably need lots of hours to play.
I lost weeks and months to the original xcom.
I don’t have kids.
+1
I try not to look at the stats for hours played of Fallout 4. Currently brushing up on my Far Cry 4 in preparation for 5 to come out at the end of this month.
Had a Dark Souls 3 binge the last few weeks, helped by a long and nasty cold keeping me off the bike. 🙁
Put 10 ish hours into my main character, so up to about 120, then started another and finished the game in 40 hours. May go onto Bloodborne now as I've only played it for a few hours at launch.
Not sure on how to make time if you have kids... if it's a way of passing time I'm sure you can get an hour here and there, but if your really into games (I have been since I was old enough to play them), then you make time. Friday nights aren't for wasting money in a pub, they're for gaming. 🙂
Don’t play much or at all on days I’m working, on my days off I can usually squeeze an hour or so in.
Fortnite is pretty good I wasn’t sure at first but got a bit more into it, thanks to lessons from my 14 year old daughter. 😳
What kind of stuff do you like? And what are you playing on?
I'm on PC, stuff I've enjoyed recently include the Dishonoured series, Team Fortress 2, Portal 2 (again), trying to speedrun Mirror's Edge etc.
In the exact same boat as you! I've had to find games where i can just get a quick blast so Overwatch, Diablo III anything with a multiplayer option and games with a quick turn around that are still fun. No more hours spent on Witcher 3 or Stellaris
PUBG is doing it for me atm - Xbox1x. Just tried sea of thieves and it could suck a lot of life away if it clicks for you.
back into gaming now the kids are at uni, have to say when they were littleuns, the gaming time dropped right off.
I haven't had my console for a while (been living away from home whilst house is renovated). I'd easily spend an evening playing Battlefield 1.
Whilst I've been away, I've actually downloaded the Age of Empires Definitive Edition. It's been quite an old-skool revival :). The stupid idiot villagers still get stuck though.
Also playing World Of Warships Blitz on the iPhone. Easy to dip in & out of, as battles only last 5 minutes.
If you like RPGs and haven't played The Witcher 3 it's brilliant (get the Game Of The Year Edition).
I'm slowly working my way through Dark Souls 3 - brutally hard and more arcade than RPG IMHO but quite a challenge.
Both sometimes turn up in STEAM sales.

New old games every couple of weeks. Massive cash prizes 😉
🙂
Getting into games a bit as the kids start playing them - fortnite seems to be the absolute top dog at the moment with the youth.
My rpg sequence has gone FF7 on playstation 1 <20 year gap> Zelda breath of the wild, witcher 3. The game engines / mechanics of play are mind-blowing from that perspective of living under a rock for a couple of decades. The actual games, though - not sure - maybe these two are unrepresentative as they are huge budget blockbusters so need to cater for common denominators, but they seem to be massively charcter and story-driven, with the underlying gameplay being a bit average / lacking innovation.
TF2 MVM mode.
I didnt realise Far Cry 5 was out so soon. Cant wait... love them all.
27th for Far Cry 5 - just in time for the Easter break.
Every so often I go back to Sudden Strike 2, which is old and was basic when it was new, but has great game play:

I'm mostly a PC gamer but I got a switch last week and it's perfect for quick bursts of play.
I bought it expecting most of my use would be in front of the TV, but the form factor works incredibly well in combination with the ability to instantly suspend and resume games at any point.
I find I'm getting home from work and lying on the bed for an hour playing Mario, or picking it up for 5 minutes before I have to go out. It feels like what mobile gaming could be if it was possible to sell full featured, full priced games on an app store.

Going to give World of Tanks another go this weekend
If you like that kind of game then check out War Thunder. I tried WoT and didn't get on with it at all, but I've become horribly addicted to War Thunder, and the great thing is that a battle lasts 40minutes at most - and that's in realisitc mode.
I mostly play the planes on it, as I'm just not good enough at the tanks...
Apologies for the thread spamming, but if you do give war thunder a go, it would be much appreciated if you use this code:

As it means that I get free stuff if you like it and play it for a while 🙂
Humble are giving away F1 2015 free, while F1 2017 is on free weekend promo at Steam.
PC Gamer with Steam here. I enjoy open world, adventure, strategy and space games with the occasional driving sim thrown in for good measure.
I've played Fallout 4 to death, but still love it. Otherwise, I'm pootling around the galaxy with Elite Dangerous, trying to master an Xbox pad with Asetto Corsa and spending long hours on Civilization.
Nice one, folks!
(I'm on Xbox X. But it doesn't matter.)
I really like World of Tanks, as I can play it with my boy (shared controller). In fairness, he's more than happy to play the mini-game.
Whilst I like the pretty pictures of 4K, I'm slightly disappointed that there aren't many 2 player 'sofa' games these days.
Wipeout 2097 with a bunch of mates and a spliff or two used to be an entire evening's fun.
I'm playing West of Loathing just now, which has got a wee bit old on me but for a while it was amazing. Ideal for short sessions though. And Stellaris, which is a massive time-soak. Basically I always tend to have a long game and a short game on the go, a quick skirmish in company of heroes or a few rooms of FTL to balance out the zomg this is like a second job stuff
I'm addicted to all the Lego games. I'll play the story through just to get it out the way, but then I can kill hours in the open world bits. Lego City is definitely the best for this.
