I think that first hour before drinks will be crucial for us, if we can get through unscathed, we can start getting through the day from there
😆
So who thinks batting first was the wrong decision now? I'm sure Mr Haddin is really looking forwards to facing Swann in the last innings.
your on holiday, you arrive and unpack and realise one of your bags is missing. Yep the one with the batsmen in
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Yep the one with the batsmen in
😀
The trouble for the Aussies here is you take out Smiths performance and they have a handful of runs between the openers and not a jot else. At least England had a number of batsman who made a start and have something to hold on to. If you make 20 you think about turning it into a 50, if you make <10 you just worry!
With the sun out this afternoon the pitch may behave a bit, England were done yesterday by a nervy overcast morning session. The environment and momentum are behind them now.
Blimey, you turn away for a few minutes, and all hell brakes loose. Great isn't it!!!! Now please can we bat properly in the 2I.
wont get [s]150[/s] 120
Should have stuck with your first prediction 😉
I'm not quite sure why Agar is batting 11 though - far better first class average than the 3 bowlers above him. OK so he's not played many innings, but then he got into the side despite not having many wickets, so why not a bit of confidence in him? I wouldn't be too sure we've got them whilst somebody of his quality is still there - given the way the others played he'll surely get promoted at least a couple of places in their second go? (I'll make the wild assumption that the number 9 Aussie will get a 2nd bat)
It's high quality reverse swing bowling that's doing for the Aussies, and Jimmy is the undisputed king.
First few overs today it did nothing, and apart from having pace I don't think the aussies will swing it today, conventionally or otherwise. It's a day for the batters, and bat properly and the game could almost be beyond the Australians by tonight.
5 wickets for 8 runs, fan-bloody-tastic...
Can't give that stumping out surely?
England had one less convincing than that go against them recently - in the Champion's Trophy final I think.
Phew, fair call... Not that it'll make a friggin difference 🙁

Broad is off the field - this is looking ominous for us nowSHOULD HAVE BOWLED FIRST
I think it is still a valid argument as the key factor in bowling is the weather and morning sessions often have the best bowling conditions. Bowling first is the only way to guarantee bowling in the morning and the forecast was for cloud yesterday, it did prove difficult for us. However, it would have been a defensive move to avoid batting so on balance it was the right call.
Boycott disagrees with you, psychle - he might be on our side, but he's also usually inclined to get benefit of the doubt to batters if there is any. Rule is foot on the line is out.
I think one of the big considerations in batting first was that you don't want to be batting last on this pitch. That and Swann would like to bowl last on this pitch, with a load of footmarks to bowl in.
Still, at least you're good at rugby...
Oh, hold on.
😉
Grrrrr.... God it sucks to be an Aussie sports supporter at the moment... 🙁

One of these Australian batsmen has a solid opener's technique with a straight bat and good footwork. The other is Phil Hughes. #Ashes

It's not all bad as an Aussie supporter - I mean there's that Richie Porte sitting in 2nd place in the TdF...
getting dangerous. Not necessarily just the score, I'd still back us in a one innings game with Australia batting last and Swann bowling, let alone in a one innings game with a 30-40 run headstart.
But just the cussedness of a last innings stand turns the bowlers attitude round from 'we're doomed' to '....maybe, if.....'
eg: Botham and Dilley, 1981.......

31st
It's not all 'strewth' for the Aussies yet - nice 53-run 10th wicket partnership already.
Anyone who thinks this is over already has a few roos loose in the top paddock.
England bowlers handing out some gift runs here, thankfully...
My involvement in this thread yesterday seemed to trigger some Aussie fortune, as the same has happened again today I’m off to start a what tyres thread.
Hughes & Agar to open?
No Number 11 on debut has made 50....yet
Go Agar! I'm going to nickname him Petri 🙂
He's making this look easy, unbelievable really given the carnage that preceded his arrival
I guess the weather is brighter and warmer today and the swing is going as the day moves on? If so, when we *do* get the stubborn sod out we *SHOULD* rattle up a few with our openers.
You heard it here first (not that I take any pleasure in my prediction coming true)

The 'proper' batsmen in the aussie side must be feeling pretty embarrassed right now.
Come on England! Get Anderson on and bowl full!

True enough, it is a bit worrying to think what your admittedly quality batsman will do in similar/improving conditions...
Superb effort on debut from Agar.
You bloody ripper young Agar, a little bit of joy and happiness, and dare I say it, hope on an otherwise disappointing morning. We may even get a first innings lead yet amazingly!
This is why we love Test cricket isn't it, the twists and turns of fortune, damn it's good! 😀
Has he now scored more sixes than Jonathon Trott in his entire career?
Top score in the match to Agar. Has a number 11 on debut ever managed that before?
...obviously everybody else is busy hitting statsguru as it's fallen over.
WTF is going on????
fair play though, can't believe how much this gaming is swinging one way then the other, and we've only had 4 sessions....

The Miracle of Trentbridge 😀
How on earth do we have a first innings lead???
if Agar makes a ton then I'll finish the bottle of red I have and buy some more Ozzie wine in protest!
I'm out with about 80 Aussies. This is no longer going well...
How on earth did that happen?
FFS!!!!
Cheers,
Jamie
Would it be funny if scores ended up level....
Does Hughes know lunch is 4 minutes away? What a cracking shot though 🙂
nothing else for it, time for some mockers.
this fella's superb, i reckon he'll get at least 150, then run through our top order in true Warne style.
there, that should do it....
That recipe of Michael Holdings sounds delishish... Not!!
[quote=johndoh ]Would it be funny if scores ended up level....
Not going to happen now!

Just let the ladies explain the game to you!
Michael Clarke should declare, just for the hell of it! 😀
Just in case anyone's never seen it!
Cricket: As explained to a foreigner...
You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay all out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out. When both sides have been in and all the men have out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!
🙂
Again, I am off to bed, I have no friggin idea what news shall await me in the morning, fingers crossed it's good, night all!
Or maybe I'll stay up until we lose our last wicket...
That stumping been given not out has proved to be quite controversial eh?
apparently Agar bats No3 for his regular side
Cunning tactics from Clarke and Lehman eh? Send in a sandbagger at 11, stick a tail on it and call it a weasel!
England bowlers lost the plot for an hour or so, as did Cook as Captain you have to say, allowed 2 batsman to find their feet and get set, may just prove a match turning session, maybe... To be honest, this is the position Australia should be in, but with another 4-5 wickets in hand to capitalise further, we shouldn't have needed such an unlikely miracle to eke out a lead...
WTF is happening at this cricket match 😯

I could sort you out with that.

Get on with it then! Send it up with Jason this weekend
Right. Agar. I'm out with a bunch if scientists. He will now forever be known as seaweed man
Has anyone not told them this isn't a 20/20?
I suspect Henley CC will be looking for another overseas pro for the rest of the season.
England have to take encouragement from this - surely our top order should be able to score some runs on this showing.
If we ever bowl them out...
This game is cruising for a draw, I don’t see why the excitement!!!
Bugger, feel a little sorry for the young bloke. Only a little mind.
COME ON ENGLAND!
Cheers,
Jamie
Poor sod!
Oh no! I don't think I've ever been so unhappy about an Australian wicket falling.
Awww, he deserved a ton! No more than that, mind you!
Right, now let's put them to the sword!
Any one else gutted he didn't make his 100?
What happened
Such a shame, but what' a great fantastic knock from Agar! Hopefully he inspires the bowlers into some further heroics... Now I really am off to bed, night all, see you in the morning 🙂
(Averts eyes in anticipation of England throwing this away in spectacular fashion)...
2 short what a proper shame that is
No one saw that coming what a fantastic couple of days it has been so far
Ok now can they bat?
If an Aussie noob can do it, I reckon England will make a few. 😉
Ashton Agar, you're now a legend of Australian sporting folklore, well done young man! Now, get back out there and take a five-for 😀
And I really am off to bed now, night all
Blimey, can only check in every few hours or so at the moment.....each time, so far from what was expected. Must be exciting to follow live.
Nice of the agar chap not to run it in with a century. But fine performance "mate"!!!!
Right, a nice boring traditional test innings now please- I can't take much more of the last day and 1/2!
Cheers,
Jamie
i have achieved very little at work today.... please make it less interesting!
a nice boring traditional test innings now please
Good start on that front - 5/0 after 5.4 at a rate of 0.88. 😯
