So Ayra is a super sneaky ninja who is aware of her surroundings constantly.
Apart from when the plot needs her not to notice littlefinger in the corridor.
A slow episode that only really picked up with 4 minutes to go.
So just to check, Gendry and Jon are brothers, right?
Robb, I write to you with a heavy heart. Our good king Robert is dead, killed from wounds he took in a boar hunt. Father has been charged with treason. He conspired with Robert’s brothers against my beloved Joffrey and tried to steal his throne. The Lannisters are treating me very well and provide me with every comfort. I beg you: come to King’s Landing, swear fealty to King Joffrey and prevent any strife between the great houses of Lannister and Stark.
So just to check, Gendry and Jon are brothers, right?
Nope. Gendry's father (Robert Baratheon) killed Jon's father (Rhaegar Targaryen) coincidentally* with the same style of battle axe as Gendry favours.
Nobody other than Bran and Howland Reed (whose only been shown in the Tower of Joy flashback sequence) know that Jon was Lyanna Stark's child and the only evidence to say that he was born in wedlock and therefore the rightful King of the seven kingdoms is in the book that Gilly was reading from and which I guess is in Sam's cart and heading North.
* i dont think this is a coincidence
So just to check, Gendry and Jon are brothers, right?
Wrong. ...I think.
Excellent episode. My favourite of this season by far. Really paid off the previous episode's action and sets up a brilliant finale to this season.

Beric Dondarrion, Thoros, Gendry, Sir Jorah Mormont, Tormund
I'm so confused.
I thought that Jon was Rob's bastard.
Guess I need to pay more attention.
Edit: Hmm. So if the annulment talk was in relation to Jon's real dad being married at the time he was born, that means he supersedes Danny's claim to any throne?
No, he adopted him as his bastard.I thought that Jon was Rob's bastard.
Just watched the last 2.
Great episodes. Liked the slower pace of this one.
Nice gag about Gendry still rowing. Not sure about the plastic hammer though.
Little finger still managing to stay one step ahead...
Hmm. So if the annulment talk was in relation to Jon's real dad being married at the time he was born, that means he supersedes Danny's claim to any throne?
Yep. I think Daenerys is Jon's aunt and second in that line of succession.
No, he adopted him as his bastard.
Jon was adopted as Ned's bastard. Ned made out he was conceived whilst away at war.
Gendry is the last surviving bastard of Robert Baratheon. He had loads of kids outside of his marriage, Cersei had them all killed except Gendry who slipped through the net.
😆 erm wait, who is Rob again?
I think Bronn might have a problem now hes on Cersei's list .
erm wait, who is Rob again?
King Rob. Not that one, the other one. The one Ned was The Hand for.
muppetWrangler - MemberJon Snow, Beric Dondarrion, Thoros, the Hound, Gendry, Sir Jorah Mormont, Tormund.
Who's not going to make it back?
Beric is going to have a big say in it as he's a white walker
Pretty good episode but the opening sequence pissed me off a bit, they really swam 2-300m under water wearing armour? pfft they could have at least had a fast flowing river or something if they're going to be cheesed away rather than captured.
I'm glad Little Finger is actually up to something rather than sidelined/in fear as we were being led to believe. Wonder if he's had Faceless training as well...
Yeah the opening scene was frankly ludicrous...but there you go, soon forgot about it.
Clearly Jon Snow bonding with the dragon suggests he will be riding one soon? I'm a bit concerned about the lack of plan to capture a dead warrior, sounds a bit tricky!

*Adopts non specific Irish accent akin to a malevolent Leprechaun* Well if he did, he wouldn't be going around challenging people to duels in the courtyard would he? No. Certain secrets are better kept secret.
Given how fast everyone is zipping round the map, I can only assume the undead are moving at a pace favoured by the shuffling zombies of George A. Romero's films, rather than the sped up versions in Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead from 2004.
There's dragons, zombies, children of the forest and giants but some how it's silly when someone swims 200m in armour. 😕
Look it's very simple. There are no roads north of the wall, and pretty much all of them, even The Nights King, forgot to fully charge their phones the night before they set off. Consequently the GPS ate through their batteries and they are effectively left wandering snowblind.
There's dragons, zombies, children of the forest and giants but some how it's silly when someone swims 200m in armour.
Because the story has laid the groundwork for those things to exist.
Bron and Jaime being amphibians has not been addressed previously. So it's somewhat surprising that they appear to be able to breathe underwater, and in Jaime's case, counter the effects of physics by not sinking like a stone.
North of the wall where its chuffin cold no one wears a hat !
Bron and Jaime being amphibians has not been addressed previously.
Give it time.
That would be quite the twist.
It's all about currents.
All of the so called time travel occurs in or on water.
Exceptionally strong currents in the Blackwater Rush shot Jaime and Bronn rapidly downstream and conveniently spat them out on the beach.
Other, conveniently placed and exceptionally strong, ocean currents exist between all the major locations where the plot unfolds.
Euron doesn't need to know where anyone is. He just gets in a boat and rides the nearest plot current which whisks him away to wherever the script demands.
Just like Finding Nemo.
*awaits geeky rebuttal and a link to an online map of the maritime currents of Westeros
Unwise career move for Kevin Eldon's character, would've been better off staying in that play 😀

What a way to go...
I was thinking the dragon taking to Jon snow was him possibly being of Targaryen blood ?
Hmmm. Is Arya getting played by Littlefinger, or is she allowing herself to be played in order to draw him out? Surely Bran could have a word and just tell them what he's up to? Unless perhaps Littlefinger's chicanery is ultimately going to fulfil some greater purpose? Maybe he's just decided to be a bit Emo and not tell them.
Now that Jon's right of succession is established, I predict the following:
1. Before long, we'll see Jon riding the Dragon conveniently named after his Da.
2. Daenerys ain't making it to the end.
Edit: The above predictions might be seem a bit gauche, but I've not looked at any spoiler/speculation discussions, besides this one.
RE Jon Snow's heritage. Is this from the books? a Spoiler? or did I nod off and miss something in one of the episodes?

Did you not watch series 6?

Basically, the R+L=J theory, talked about here by the excellent recapper Alt+Shift+x back in 2014, is true and hints have been dropped throughout the last series. With hints increasing as time has gone on.
Arya & Sansa are (successfully) being played off against each other by Littlefinger, Arya may have the faceless men skills but he's got a lifetimes worth of experience being a sneaky shit.
I think Bran, although he has the potential to see everything, can't as he doesn't have enough experience/training yet. (Think this was explained in the show). So although he's seen glimpses he doesn't know exactly what has/will happened/happen.
All this "rightful king" stuff is bollocks surely, I thought that was the point (petty squabbling whilst ignoring the real danger and all that?) The Targaryians only appointed themselves thusly after they flew in on dragons and murderd everyone else who disagreed. Although if anyone can unite everyone it will be JS, as he is at least descended from both the first men (via the Starks) and the foreign invaders (Targaryians).

They have been dropping subtle hints over the last ooooh...... sixty four hours or so of tv.

There was loads of obvious nods to jon being the main dude in that, from patting the dragon on the head, to being shot standing above denerys when they were leaving, to sams missus reading the book that was just about to reveal the secret marriage(Which makes me guess that bran has a different purpose from just telling jon about his geneolgy, well either that or it's a completely pointless story! I guess he'll have a big part to play in the final show down with the night king, they are aware of each other) and a few others i think I can't remember.

Not at all. There is so much happening in relation to lore etc. I only just about know what's going on as I watch Alt+Shift+X's recaps to see what I have missed.
...and then I still get stuff wrong.
Season one, episode two. I think this is the first hint that there's something more to be discussed re Jon's parentage. If Ned had bloody well just been less cryptic 🙄
I think they've fallen into the trap of assuming that all viewers are catching up on social media. Anyone who has just watched the show and nothing else might have missed some of this stuff. I only watch the show and this thread.
As soon as Gilly mentioned annulment I was thinking it was going to be significant and that, after his rant, Sam was going to go - "Wait, what..?". Didn't happen. But in this fast-forwarded version GoT, hardly any word is wasted.
I think it sets it up for Daenerys (becoming more willing to let morals slip as she's convinced she's the rightful Queen) to end up at war with Jon (the actual rightful King as he's not a bastard) as she won't want to just give it all up. Probably after the Night King is defeated so it doesn't all end in peace and harmony
dunno, she's clearly falling for him. Though i guess that could set up some conflict in itself.FuzzyWuzzy - Member

Hmmmm, I think in the long run this might prevent the show from ever really becoming a hit.

Well who wouldn't, have you seen him? The man's bloody gorgeous. A midget, but phwoaaaar.

I'm really looking forward to seeing that smug grin wiped off Dany's face when she finds out she isn't actually the "rightful heir" to the throne. Bet she won't be so willing to bend the knee then, will she?

I'll tell you what's silly - they aren't even dragons, they're WYVERNS 😈
Bet she won't be so willing to bend the knee then, will she?
Both knees. Probably.
Who you all reckoning is the 3rd targaryan? is there another? tyrion is the only other person that doesn't seem to fear the dragons and they took nicely too that i can remember, plus he's still waffling on about his da no liking him, so he's obviously not his da..
This is why I miss the IMDB message boards, although over run with bawbags it was a great source of information, interpretation and theories.I think they've fallen into the trap of assuming that all viewers are catching up on social media. The 3rd targaryan?
King white walker? He's about white enough to be an aryan.
Bronn isn't getting his castle.
Jaime suddenly doesn't like his sister so much.
The elder Tarly didn't get the brains, did he?
Sir Friendzone got over his dermatitis rather quickly.
Something of a surprise to see Gendry come out of the woodwork again. Still, House Baratheon have had their crest on the title sequence for the entire show now, so I guess they couldn't have been completely wiped.

I'm sure you could find plenty of this on Reddit. I prefer to just enjoy the show for what it is and occasionally check in here myself.
I had forgotten how much Gendry and Podrick look alike until last night.
As soon as Gilly mentioned annulment I was thinking it was going to be significant and that, after his rant, Sam was going to go - "Wait, what..?". Didn't happen.
That's because Sam doesn't know anything about Jon's bloodline so he wouldn't make the connection between a story of a targaryen baby and his bestie. As far as he's aware Jon is Ned's son conceived out of wedlock during the war. Everyone except Bran and Howland Reed still thinks Jon is Neds bastard.
He is 100% of Targaryen blood.
Oh come on you even posted the family tree that illustrates that he's half Targaryen half Stark. As far as we know Daenerys is the only full blooded Targaryen.
The 3rd targaryan?
It's been hinted at in the show, and on this thread a couple of pages back so you can find out if you want to but it seems like a spoiler so I'll say no more here.
Is that Podrick Baratheon you're talking about?
Laughed out loud at this......
I missed that bit 😆 thanks
I don't really care that much who ends up on the Iron Throne.
I do however want to learn more about Podrick's mysterious bedroom talents.
yeah - I missed the 'big woman' comment too 🙁

At this point, there's only a few contenders. Dropping in a new major character at this stage of the game would be taking the [s]Euron[/s] Mickey.
Oh come on you even posted the family tree that illustrates that he's half Targaryen half Stark. As far as we know Daenerys is the only full blooded Targaryen.
As in he 100% has Targaryen blood in him.
Chill, guy. It's only a tv show.
Although if one of them comes to a sticky end, all this "3rd Targaryen" speculation will be somewhat irrelevant!3 dragons.

I dunno. Quite nice today.
Or is this a 'we're all dying' type of thing?

Death is the enemy, the first enemy and the last. The enemy always wins and we still need to fight him.
Trailer for next weeks episode
As far as we know Daenerys is the only full blooded Targaryen.
This question has already been answered in the books, but they'll have to address it differently in the show, I think.
In the books, this element of the plot had a lot to do with the Dorne storyline. I think it's for this reason that, in the show, this storyline felt a bit underdeveloped and tacked-on to a lot of people.
Still, Sandsnakes...
Does seem a bit silly for [s]the Fellowship of The Ring[/s] JS and his buddies to just march off beyond the wall without a plan... they are fully aware the army of the dead are all marching together so it's not like they're just going to find a couple of stragglers. And how will showing Dani/Cersei a single peaky looking wight constitute proof that there's a whole army of them plus white walkers on the way? Still, should make for some good action!
Well they would have plenty of time to formulate one on the long journey up there. Albeit we don't get to see that journey but come next weeks episode, if they have arrived without one then they all deserve to die.
ive developed a bit of a man crush on Jon Snow I have to admit.... he's such a great character.
How many episodes left.....two? 🙁
