Why does it have to be so belligerent!

3 months ago the trackpad on my laptop stopped working.. Right when I had coursework due, of course.
For some reason, best known only to itself, it worked fine when on my lap (but not on a desk), when on battery power, or when leaned on hard on the front corner of the case, but not with an external mouse.. Fine, I thought. I can deal with this.. Soon after that the power connector became dodgy, from all the plugging and unplugging I guessed... I did the old tongue test on the plug, and there was definitely voltage, so I took the motherboard out, resoldered the power socket, and cleaned the trackpad connector and put it all back together.. But nope.. Still broken. New laptop time thought I..
So off down to the sales I went.. 350 notes down and a new ASUS laptop came home with me. And so did a new multimeter, as I've got to find out what's up with my car electricals... Now I stated using the new lappy, and chucking programs and all my stuff on to it, and I thought, why don't I put this meter on the old power supply and see what it's up to? Sure enough.. there's 20V but it's intermittent, so chop chop, solder solder, tape tape, and it's back together and working... And what's this? My trackpad NOW F*&£ING WORKS??!!?? GAARRGH!!

So, STW.. My questions are..

1. Should I pay the £35 restocking fee and get my money back, or take the full £350 in a Curry's voucher for when my old laptop gives me shit again?

and 2. What on earth is my take home message from all of this?

I'd Pay the restocking fee unless there's something you need imminently - you'll end up putting it towards a nice big tele box instead 🙂

I thought it was Comet in trouble not Currys (Dixon group)?

TBH you have spent the money now, my old lappy was a bit erratic but mostly working so I ignored it.
Bad move It died totally 3 weeks ago & though I lost no stuff its a PITA having to set up the new one in a hurry

Yep.. I was thinking of taking the £35 hit. I've no fears of them still trading in 12 months time.. My only fear is that my current laptop will still be running fine then!

I'm doubtful that anybody would happily swap £350 of real money with me unless they'd definitely decided that whatever they wanted was coming from Currys..

Oh, and the new lappy is deffo going back. The colour quality on the screen is very poor compared with my old one. I'll have a look at the display one when I go in to see if it's a fault with mine, but I don't think they would offer a refund on those grounds, only a replacement.
