After a hard days sitting down/sofa shopping at all the retail outlets last weekend, and all the associated sales bullshit (‘This is the BEST SOFA IN THE WORLD’), it occurred to me I’d rather not give any of them any money, so who do you know that is good at making sofas? Ideally a 3 and a 2 seat and, if possible, with a recline function at a competitive price to the retailers? We’re based in Leeds, but don’t mind travelling about to see something nice.

SW James. Showroom in Bollington Cheshire. We should be getting ours in a couple of weeks. Hand made so can Taylor requirements. The ones we sat in in the show room were really comfortable. Not cheap though

Shackletons are in Dewsbury. You could get a high seat chair you know, maybe have your niece buy it.

other than 'competitive', what is your budget?

There are some fantastic Chesterfield makers still doing things the traditional way, some of them also do proper reconditioning too.

Springvale Furniture in Rawtenstall.

I live opposite so know all the people there - really good guys, Peter the boss/owner especially so. Has an orphanage in India.

Top quality materials - I've seen their solid wood frames, and I know they use the best foams you can get (I work in the PU industry).

Peter helped the local community fight a planning application, whilst we were all waiting in the local council reception he commented the sofa's we were all sat on were his and circa 20year old - they looked like new.

They have a show room and can make any style/material etc.

@tomhoward - Pratts is very good. They don't sell any cheap crap.
We've got a lot of stuff there over the last 10 years and it's all been great. It's probably a bit more expensive than a lot of local places but we found that if you buy multiple items they'll do you a good deal e.g. 2x sofas and coffee table, bookcase or mirror etc.

Budget wise we’re looking at 3-5k for the 2 sofas.

You could buy a pair of brakes for that!

I would be looking at a reconditioned pair from someone like David Robinson

Tetrad in Preston make great sofas. Check out the Facebook page for what's on offer in the factory shop that's open Fridays and Saturdays. We have bought five sofas from them over the years and all have been well made and comfy.

+1 for Christopher Pratt.
In Mytholmroyd - Russell Dean (retailer) and Vale Bridgecraft (manufacturer).
Ponsfords in Sheffield.
Hopewells in Nottingham - they have a Duresta pop-up showroom.

Pratt’s visited this aft. Nice chat with salesperson, an ex mtber turned roadie, no being followed round the shop, no bullshit. Sofas ordered. 20 week lead time, so not long, compared to brakes…

Thanks very much @elshamino & @frankconway!
