Decided to get a few jobs done while furloughed (first mistake)

Replacing a light fitting, like a numpty I didn’t make a note of all the wires before disconnecting (second mistake)

I’ve got a 3 way light switch feeding 2 lights (both work as one light)

My confusion is I’ve got 3 core and earth on my switch loop to the ceiling Rose and can’t find a wiring diagram with what to do with the 3rd wire

Live (brown) is to the loop in / out
My switched live (brown sheath) is to the pendant
My problem 3rd wire (from switch) I’m unsure where it should be connected to?

Can anyone advise before I call a sparky (aware this may well be the correct answer)

just trying to understand.

Have you only taken one light down to replace and you only have one 3 core cable at the light?

At the pendant (or junction box above) you should have live, neutral, switched live and earth.

@turin - I have successfully replaced the other light.
I have 2+e for the in / out feed
Definitely have 3+E coming from the light switch. Don’t know where to connect the 3rd wire to 🤦🏻‍♂️

The switch isn’t powered in any way is it? Backlit?

Nope bog standard two way switch (4 ports).

In the switch the grey wires are crimped together (1x 3e from the Rose, and 1x 3+e to the next switch)

The back and brown do the switching.
But in the pendant the grey wire is indicated as the switched live - doesn’t seem correct based on how it’s wired at the switch?

caveat - i cant see what you are seeing.

but the crimping of the greys is likely to be as you say the switched live coming from one of the other switches. The wiring can be configured that way.

So What to do is use the Grey as the switched live at the light, whatever colour is to be the neutral and the third wire could be the live feed going back to the switch, but from what you have said thats not likely. But typically with the three core and earth between switches its when an old one way switch is extended to a second switch and making it 2 way. in that case the feed starts at the old switch,, a three core is run to the new switch and then the grey comes back as the switch wire. So if thats the case the original switch needs to ave a feed somewhere. It coudl originate from the light fitting?

If you have the light fitting, wire up what you know as the switched live and neutral to the light and terminate the "spare" wire in a connector and switch it on.

sorry, just trying to understand whats actually there

Any pictures of the wiring currently?

Might help diagnose what's going on!

It's well confusing when you get three switches controlling a single light.
1 of them will be an 'intermediate' switch which is inbetween the other two.
I did it by trial and error so never learnt the theory, but its here:
