Mostly because she'd enjoy it but partly hoping it'll encourage her to take something up, I'm trying to think of daft Jackie Chan type films that aren't too serious but have plenty of silly fighting in. She's 9
High Noon I think will feature
Who Am I? Might be a bit long and convoluted but contains loads of slapstick
Any other suggestions? Is Chan entirely his own genre?
Kung Fu Hustle?
Drunken Master
Wheels on Meals
Prodigal Son - but might be a bit to murdery in parts.
The Last Dragon.
Worth it for the Bruce Leeroy pun alone
Sho-nuff!
Oh, needs to have an English soundtrack really, she probably won't manage subtitles fast enough.
Ninja Turtles surely
Under Siege.
Anthing with Seagal in it is usually unintentionally hilarious but that’s his best work.
May also contain Gary Busey and Tommy Lee Jones chewing the scenery.
Caution: may also contain boobies
Beverley Hills Ninja
Or any classic 70s kung fu movie. They're all laughable
Original Karate Kid? Not overly funny, but inspired a generation.
Any of the Jackie, Samo, Yuen films from the 80’s. Pretty much all classics. Armour of God, Project A, Police Story and Meals on Wheels are all classics. Karate Kid films?
Or any classic 70s kung fu movie. They’re all laughable
If you’re thinking Shaw Brothers a few of them are pretty violent. Some of Jet Li’s earlier films are good too. Legend of Fong Sai Yuk is good and pretty funny.
Karate kid is not so much a slapstick comedy, more a film about bullying where a kid gets beaten up a lot even when he wins. So not quite the same thing! Might still be inspirational tho.
Is Chan entirely his own genre?
I’d say yes. Amazing stuntman and physical comedian. Off topic, but his biography is a great read too.
If it’s to inspire your daughter you want some Cynthia Rothrock.
She wasn’t very funny though.
She wasn’t very funny though.
Have you seen her films? I especially love how everything is speeded up.
Kung Fu Panda obvs...
LOL...... This is what you need.... "Way of the Dragon" 1972
The best bit is:
My daughter and I usually do this on the living room floor. (I'm Bruce Lee obvs.)
After, a few minutes winding eachother up, the kitten at 2.34mins meows and marks the beginning of the battle proper and then we kick crap outa eachother for a few minutes.
Great fun. Try it.
Kung fu hustle
big trouble in little china (nearly a martial arts film honest)
This is what you need…. “Way of the Dragon” 1972
Have you actually seen it? I'd say as a film it's a bit slow for my 9 year old...
Kung Fury, obviously.
Kung Fu Hustle
one of my favourite martial arts movies
Cougar -"Tank you."
Jackie Chan ftw
For when she's a bit older, say in about 20 years Hentai Kamen.
Stone cold classic!!
I misread as "funny martial arts moves", hence:

Shaolin Soccer?
Not a film but the old tv series Monkey , absolutely hilarious when I was a nipper .
It’s got to be Project A 1 and 2. There is one blink and you’ll miss it stabbing in 1 but the rest of both are suitable for kids. Two of his best films and hilarious.
Then maybe Armour of God - his best attempt at conventional action film
Suitable for kids - "The Spy Next Door" (suitable for Dads too, with the mum being an ex supermodel)
Has she seen the "Sky Kids" (Robert Rodriguez) films? My kid loved those when he was a nipper. Not really martial arts though.
Jackie Chan films are spot on for this sort of thing: Rumble in the Bronx? The Tuxedo (def for kids). Accidential Spy, Spy Next Door. How about the Rush Hour movies?
First Strike, just for the step ladder outtakes and JC being all stealthy whilst wearing a seal pup hat.

Jackie Chan's City Hunter is one of his dafter ones.
As above really,
You can't go wrong with most Jackie Chan films.
Stephen Chows Fung Fu Hustle might be a little nasty for a 9yo, but Shaolin Soccer would be perfect (If you can find a dubbed version).
Don't out rule Jet Li, as things like The Legend Of Fong Sai Yuk (1 and 2) we're kung fu comedy.
An oldy would be Prodigal Son (made even better for the OTT voice overs!)
<span style="display: inline !important; float: none; background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: 'Open Sans'; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: 22.4px; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">another vote for The Spy Next Door (suitable for mums too, the baddy is played by Magnús Scheving, Sportacus from Lazy town)</span>
Rush Hour obvs.
Although you probably want to try to find a version with the bad language cut out. So that would be about 4 minutes left This four minutes in fact.
Whoops, no, the n-bomb dropped in the first sentence...
Shaolin Soccer is a great film but it draws on film stereotypes for its humour and when you're 9 you might not be aware of them.
There's also another similar one on Netflix involving high school basketball, but I forget its title.
Has anyone watched "The New Legends of Monkey"?
I loved Monkey as a kid.
I've tried watching a couple of Jackie Chan films with my youngest, but there are loads of long boring scenes in between the memorable ones. I find myself skipping through which is a shame.
If you can find it, Jack Chan Stunt Team is a good watch - all about how they do the stunts. Spoiler alert - it's even more dangerous/physical than you imagine!
I’ve watched the new monkey...it’s ok ,was obviously done by a fan but not as good as original.
How about the water margin? Not so funny but brilliant.
You can tell here that my kids are huge into the original Karate Kid right now. And, having watched it with them again just the other day, I can report that it’s actually very good. And inspirational.
