I don't ever use paypal for collecting money from bike parts I sell.

For posted items. I usually ask for direct e transfer then there's no risk on me, all on the buyer.
This time, the buyer has sent paypal funds to my email address (not one I have registered with paypal) so I have to confirm that address in order to receive the money.

What's the risk here? Can he charge back on money sent to an email address? It doesn't say if its goods and services, F&F, gift etc.

Don't see the money in your account?

Once you confirm your email address in your Profile, you'll be able to receive the money. Be sure to take action by October 18, 2025. Otherwise, we'll have to return the money to the sender.

Tell them to cancel the transaction and do as you asked them to.

If you already have a PayPal account I would suggest that you ask the buyer to send the funds to that email address otherwise you will likely need to re register with Paypal using the different email address (you might be able to add that second email to your PayPal account though to save setting up another account...). If the buyer didn't ask you if PayPal was acceptable I would probably decline the sale myself. That said, I would have put payment method in my listing even if it was "contact me for payment details".

Why are you even asking this question? Just tell him/her to do EXACTLY as you want otherwise you'll cancel the sale. Don't let dickheads waste your time!

Not sure what scam risk you're worried about, if it's a normal Paypal transaction. Did he pay as a commercial sale, or as a 'friends and family' payment, where he forgoes any buyer protection? If the latter, not sure what your objection is. Simply adding an email address to your (already existing) Paypal account should be pretty painless.
