Me and Mrs B have 4 days in Narberth nr Haverfordwest. We have gravel or mtb to take and also body boards/SUP/surfboards.

What should we take and what should we do?

Any info gratefully received

Ian

llys y fran reservoir will do you for biking and SUP. Didn’t get to ride it, just walked round but the bike track I saw looks good. Not Afan/BPW grade but a fun blast and the skills area looked promising.

Can recommend Joes Pizza in Narbeth itself.

Not sure on the Covid status in Wales now- we were in Cardigan late Aug and a lot of restaurants were bookings only and only free 2 weeks in advance.

Plenty of good surfing beaches, Freshwater west, Manobier, Newgale and whitesands to name a few but plenty more.
Good forecasts on Magicseaweed.com

I always liked Brechfa forest trails, about 40mins drive from Narberth.

Any opportunities for some spirited driving round there?

Came back from Pembrokeshire a few days ago, obviously should have asked before I went re biking places as llys y fran sounds like my kind of riding..

Re covid - Wales seems a lot more keen on track & trace, masks wearing etc but no issue with booking anywhere though.

I live in Aberporth, just outside Cardigan, so not too far (all relative in West Wales!).

Llys Yr Fran for the gravel bike.
Rosebush Quarry for a scramble/walk and maybe lunch/pint in Tafarn Zinc.
Poppit beach
bosherston lily ponds
Walk on the Preseli hills
Tenby

I prefer our coastline in Ceredigion so would recommend any of the coastal path leading to St Dogmaels and beyond.

Good off-road cycling is pretty rubbish in our part of the world without a drive. Brechfa is an hour and running well at the moment, particularly worthwhile if you do both tracks - Gorlech and Raven trails.

I like Narbeth, nice little town.

As above, mask-wearing more prevalent here but eating out should be much easier these days compared to August etc.

I lived near Narberth for a while. Not much decent MTBing there, but there are miles of back roads in every direction so I'd opt for gravel bikes. If you head east you'll start hitting decent MTB spots from about Llanelli on.

Plum Vanilla cafe in Narberth does excellent veggie type food and great cake.
Lots of great SUP spots around saundersfoot and Tenby.

You're easily pleased...

My BIL lived in Narbeth for a long while, felt grim to me - and I'm originally from a grim Northern post-industrial town.

Ha! It's not that bad! Brilliant antique shop, nice couple of eateries including Ultracomida and a live music hall. All this before COVID so maybe some changes?
But maybe I am easily pleased!

Fire and Ice for Ice creams.

There's some good SUP'ing or kayaking to be had around the cliffs South of Lydstep Haven at High tide, as well as some good jumps park at SS 08781 97752.
I understand FreshWater West is the most reliable surfing spot. If you fancy a quieter beach then Amroth and Telpyn point are nice.

Canaston Wood just West of Narberth is handy for some pootling about on the bike but Brechfa is probably best.

+1

We were road riding around there last week, based in Tenby. Can recommend The Malthouse Cafe in Narbeth, excellent food, stopped mid ride there for sustenance.

Very hilly roads around there, but of a shock compared to riding around Herts and Essex! Got very familiar with our small chainrings which normally never get used!

If you are up for a hike, then from Broad Haven round the headland to Sandy Haven is some of the nicest walking on the planet, every inch is stunning. That would be too much for one day though. Here's a mileage chart.

If you are up for a hike

Check if your walk crosses any firing ranges as one was closed the week we were there. Cut our walk short. The Lilly ponds are lovely:

Go to Cwm Gwaun - one of the prettiest valleys in the UK. Autumn will be arriving soon so it'll look amazing. Pop in to Dyffryn pub for some old fashioned beer served from a jug

There's a Lost Lanes Wales bike ride around the area too. Clicky

You can also explore the neolithic sites such as Pentre Ifan whilst there.
