When you write a long detailed reply, hit "Send Post" and get back "Topic Closed".

Any way we could avoid this?

Maybe allow posts that were started before the topic was closed?
Or make the topic only visible to those posting on it?

Surely that's all local - the mod can't see that

besides, he'll just wear you down

My kids love a game of Frustration, I did as a kid and love playing with them now. My 8 year old took about halfway through her first ever game to work some tactics into it, little bugger.

A lack of Kerplunk leads to Frustration.

Interesting that you think that TJ - I figured you were being pretty unkind but no more than that.

No, but the system could.

The post form could contain a hidden timestamp field for when the post was started. If that was before the topic was closed then the post could be allowed in.

Easy enough to do.

Look, STW is a pretty decent operation. They don't have a monopoly on bike related banter, nor do they scrabble around trying to corner the market.

The point of closing a thread is stop any more posts being made, not for someone to get one last word in as they are typing a 1,000 word response.

I did think the OP had rather missed this out of the equation.

Otherwise everyone woudl just keep a post open on the bickery threads ready to get the final word in...

Just type all your Big Hitting posts in Word first, then copy and paste them into the box of Big Hitting. Remember to save them before posting, so that in the dire situation of receiving the dreaded 'topic closed' notification, you can start a brand new delicious thread with the original Big Hitting post as the first one. That's what I would do if I was trying to Hit Big™.

Clubber - been warned and banned in the past for "obsessive arguing" I do try to resist but that was too juicy a bone being offered 🙂

Well it's Snakes and Ladders isn't it CFH?

It can be a Battleship on here at times.
Don't Quote Me, but Guess Who can Articulate all the Scattergories of Hungry Hungry Hippos on here?

Go!

Brainstorm.

Yeah alright. Fair enough Drac.

It's just a bit frustrating when a long but relatively civil thread gets closed mid-flow without any warning.

And it was only 800 words.

And a pie chart.

And a picture of man with a penis on his face.

In fairness, I don't think TJ has the monopoly on arguing
ANyway, what thread - give us a clue do I have to beg ?

(apols to CFH for "monopoly" - though yo may feel it's trivial. Pursuit of perfection's an all-day job)

What would stop someone from manipulating that timestamp too?

Frustrating for you maybe but what makes you think anyone else wants to read all that crap you and TJ et al were writing. One of the dullest threads of all time! IMO.

I think the solution is to take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself why you care so much.

Vanity can easily overtake wisdom. It usually overtakes common sense.
