with the new car I was thinking that i could only benefit from a front and rear dashcam when the next HGV shunts me off the road. Halfords seem to supply and fit them - so wondering for any recommendations/advice? I would not fit myself.

I got a Nextbase 522 front and rear from Halfords about two years ago for the company car.

It was a glitchy piece of crap. However, the fitting service was faultless and they were happy enough to keep swapping cameras and SD cards until it started working reliably.

Looking for one for the wife's car now. Torn between the Nextbase and the Blackview but happy enough to use Halfords again.

Thanks - just plumped for the Nextbase 622GW bundle. Managed to get a mobile fitting for Friday (anytime) - more eco.

The guy in the unit next to me at work installs them professionally - he doesn't touch Nextbase as he says they're shite! He usually either fits a particular Chinese brand (no idea what off the top of my head, I'm sure Halfords wouldn't do them though) that he supplies as he says they work well & are good VFM, or Blackvue (which I went for).

You don’t really need a professional install, they are easy to fit yourself with a hardwire kit.

I am guessing that the pro who is rubbishing Nextbase doesn’t supply them? Big surprise. They are constantly well rated cameras and Halfords honour the guarantees. My wife has an older one through work (a 322 I think) and it works very well and the video is good enough for professional insurance investigation work so it can’t be too bad!!

I was going to suggets the Nextbase ones, especially the W (Wi-Fi) enabled ones as otherwise you need a card reader to get your footage off them. Also for the rear cam, try to get something really low profile so it doesn't interfere with your luggage when packed to the gunnels (estate cars). AT the front its hidden by the rear view mirror so not a problem.

I've been using Nextbase for years, and no problem. Used the footage once when someone pulled out across me at a junction and made the claim much simpler.

to be fair, he doesn't supply Blackvue either - recommended I got it off Amazon as it's often cheaper than he can get it trade! Apparently the main issue with Nextbase is SD card corruption requiring regular manual reformatting.

Didn't take him very long to fit it (hardwired) so agree it's probably not that onerous a task to do yourself!

Mrs R has the Nextbase 622 front and rear. It's great as a dashcam but the rear camera interferes with the DAB radio aerial in the rear window rendering the radio pretty useless. Nextbase were less than interested the problem. If you're getting it fitted and you use DAB then I'd suggest you make sure you test it before the fitter declares it done.

Thanks I'll certainly test it before he leaves. But Halfords are big and ubiquitous enough to hassle if I'm not happy.
