We've a fridge freezer in the utility room, which drips so much water on the floor that the timber boards have now got mould on them.  It's a Zanussi, with a 'frost free' freezer compartment and there's always water around the freezer door seals, dripping off.  Anyone know of a potential fix?

I do wonder if it's actually suited to being in an unheated utility room as the freezer doesn't stay cold enough in proper winter weather.

Can you check the manual to see what it says about positioning? Some freezers wont work in cold conditions. We had to find one for our unheated workshop which was suitable.

Funnily enough I fixed our frost free fridge freezer at the weekend.  It was leaking water out from the inside of the fridge (lower) part.  Might not be the same problem of course

With ours what was meant to happen is that at the back of the freezer section behind a plastic insulated panel there is a freezer 'radiator' and a fan.  The idea is that the fan blows the air through the 'radiator' which cools it and it then goes into the freezer compartment and then back through some vents in the floor into the radiator.  Any moisture then freezes on the radiator.  I'm guessing that there is then a cycle where the radiator is allowed to warm up, the ice melts and it then goes through a hole underneath the radiator, through a pipe and into a plastic tub on top of the compressor at the back of the fridge where it will evaporate when the compressor runs and heats up.  All very clever.

The problem was that the pipe had become blocked and water had backed up into the freezer so it could never clear.  Everything then got iced up and then backed up into the fridge where it melted and dripped out the front

The solution was to open it all up, clear out the ice, unblock the pipe and put it all back together again.  Works perfectly now.  The even easier way rather than dismantling it would just be to switch it off and let it defrost rather than removing the ice.  Unblock the pipe at the back with a small piece of wire for the lower half and your tubeless airshot to get rid of the internal part of the pipe 🙂

It is supposed to be ok in a cool/cold utility room, that was one of the factors considered before we bought it.  Do't know if that helps though.

Can't see why not, but if it's been running for a few years without being defrosted/cleaned then there is a good chance the drainage is blocked.  Should be easy enough to take a look round the back and see if there is any water in the tub above the compressor.  If it is always dry then something is blocked.  Stick a drop of food colouring in and leave it for a day to see what happens
