Got an LG fridge freezer, about 5 or 6 years old.

The freezer appears to be working fine (everything staying frozen and frost free), but over the course of 2 or 3 days it develops a sheet of clear ice at the bottom under the lowest drawer. If we chip this away it reappears a couple of days later.

Only effect of this up to now is that the ice jams in the lowest drawer.

Any 'experts' know what's causing this and if it's a sign of impending terminal failure?

Half an eye on the January sales...

Check the fridge drain is not blocked up or the overflow reservoir is full and the water is somehow running into the bottom of the freezer.

You may want to look into this option once you have replaced the current one so you have spare to use as a beer fridge.

Check the drain as above but also make sure the door seal is ok.
If its not sealing correctly then you can get all sorts of strange stuff going on
