Fantastic to watch .... I went to the Isle of Man several years to watch the rally, in the days of Rothmans Escorts, Asconas, Mantas, DTV Chevettes etc. In those days we had a Chevette HS competing in club road and stage rallies. I may have rose-tinted glasses on but those cars just seemed more exciting to watch than the cars of today !

I was watching the Manx rally when Ari Vatenen totaled the 'Black Escort' about a mile further down the road than were we were watching on the Staarvey yump.

The braking slide at 3.00!  And that induction noise!

Lovely.

Not enough gravel in the first clip to call that real rallying 😉

Yes definitely. I competed in the Motoring News Devil's Own one year when it was won by an Ascona 400 and we regularly had ex works Escorts on Derbyshire road rallies when plot and bash was still available. Those were the days. I was marshalling in Scotland when Mikkola first turned up in the Quattro. I was simultaneously amazed and horrified.

Not bad but I'm sure I'd have been quicker in my rs2000 😏 (First car) I feel sorry for today's yoof with black boxes, fwd, traffic volume and horrendous insurance costs.  How is one to practice one's slide control from an early age when they can have their policies revoked for cornering  (within speed limits) too hard.  Off to the go kart track with the boy I suppose.

Oh Dear Lord!

That was quite the experience, sitting on my sofa and watching that vid made my butt clench tightly on several occasions... at 1:56 the car is flat out on the limiter and it's such an awesome sound!

The giggles at the end must be shear adrenaline at crossing the finish line shirley...

Brilliant! The Legacy video's a bit ivershadowed by the Escort stuff for me - rally cars need be no more complex than that, for spectator or driver. Kelly's navigator is the most terrified enthusiastic person I ever heard! 🙂
