You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Well, why not. Makes a change from arguing about stuff, doesn't it?
Let's see some of the finest sporting photography, this week on a retro theme! Any sport you like!
On topic, Johnny T on the drops.

17 years ago, Rob Brock pulls ahead in the infamous Brox race:

Rob sadly took his own life a few years ago - a lovely bloke, sadly missed.
“When you’re in your first professional season and riding in your first real classic, a relatively miniscule hill like the Capo Berta in Milan-San Remo can have the nastiest effect on your diminishing reserves of stamina. That’s how Sean Yates came to remember his baptism into big-time racing, having neglected the opportunity to collect a food-bag at the final feeding station, twenty kilometers before.
I was inching my way past the heaving peloton on the Capo Berta when I caught sight of a bulky figure wearing a Peugeot jersey-unmistakably Yates. As I passed our eyes met: mine squinting through an 85mm lens, his out of a face screwed up in agony and exhaustion. It was a short exchange- I couldn’t bear to look at him in such a state…”

Why I struggle to see Hockey as a "tough" sport sometimes... 🙂
I think I posted this before. Number 1 is the Waterford, goalkeeper, Ned Power, who has risen to field the ball. The chap in the dark shirt is Christy Ring, believed by many to have been the greatest hurler ever to walk onto a field.

famous ?
Alex wins.
End of thread!
But it's not a sport. 😕
rally is a sport
Fire up the Quattro! Superb!
Alex, that pic is one of my favourites! Love it!
Y Darc, another cracker there!
Oh, and this thread is worthless without some real sideburns...
The one and only....

Merve the Swerve. I don't fancy the opposition's chances much...!

It's a great photo, but it's not a sport. 🙂
Darcy you don't think motor sport competitors have to train?
Sorry, I'm only being mischievous. I don't want to derail the thread. I will never believe that any thing involving racing anything motorised is a sport - but that's personal. I really don't mind if anybody else does. I'm not interested in the worthless act of trying to change their minds. There. Done.

Wow!
I agree chaps. Not sports. But great pics. 🙂
Sensitive bunch you [oxymoron]motorsports[/oxymoron] fans. 😛
That quattro photo and scrub photo are brilliant!
Is Hurling a sport or just a pitched battle with a time limit 😉
Is that Bubba?
Is Hurling a sport or just a pitched battle with a time limit
😆
It is indeed a sport Piggie - I believe it is the fastest field sport in the world (though that'll all depend on the criteria used to judge that I suppose).
Plenty of shenanigans go on too...eg, the pic below...not an entirely legal tackle. 🙂
Darcy do you sport?
Or are you just game? 😀
geetee1972 - MemberSomeone stupid just said something stupid.
😛
I have met Jimmy Barry Murphy (sp?) he was a great chap and was treated like a deity in Cork 😀
Ah yes, and that's the correct spelling Piggie. He was one of the few players that have ever won All-Ireland titles at senior level in both Gaelic Football & Hurling. I think that only a dozen or so, maybe a few more have done it, and many of those were in the early part of the twentieth century. JBM was one of the ones I remember from my days of going to watch games with my dad in the seventies and eighties. Cork has a fair few of these as they have always been one of the strongest sides in both codes.
Notice...no helmets! JBM is fielding the ball. The chap next to him (on the right, crouching, in the stripes) is Pat Fleury, a famous Offaly player, a friend of my dad's and my geography teacher in secondary school.
Only one player has ever done it in the same year, Teddy McCarthy, also of Cork.
^ definitely stretching the 'retro' part of the thread
sorry i forgot
I was looking for ^^^ this when I found the dean searls image 8)
Not good enough. post a black and white photo of Miss Pendleton or get out.

Um I already did that.
I will never believe that any thing involving racing anything motorised is a sport
Well, you could say there are only 3 true sports, hunting, shooting and fishing. The rest are all just games. If you wanted to be argumentative, you could, anyway....
Or, you could go for a run with James Toseland, or a road ride with Troy Bayliss (Well, it was him or Corser, one of them was a cyclist) and see how fit you have to be to get a motorcycle round a track at racing speed. Then you might change your mind.
🙂
If you wanted to be argumentative
Well, going from your digging up a 3 day old post, you certainly like one.
Oh and btw...
go for a run
a road ride
Both sports.

Yadda, yadda, yadda...
EDIT: Who said that anyway? Because it wasn't Hemingway...
😆
