Wretched day/week/month at work, long night ahead but getting into a wee zone with some fairly tedious AutoCAD. First Laphroaig of the night slipping down nicely. Generally in a sort of depressed yet mellow headspace.

Tune starts slow and delicate with some little poem that always gives me a wee chill down the spine

"Cause this music can put a human being in a trance like state and deprive it for the sneaking feeling of existing.
Cause music is bigger than words and wider than pictures.
If someone said that Mogwai are the stars I would not object.
If the stars had a sound it would sound like this.
The punishment for these solemn words can be hard.
Can blood boil like this at the sound of a noisy tape that I've heard.
I know one thing. On Saturday, the sky will crumble together (or something) with a huge bang to fit into the cave."

I already associate those words and the start of the tune with a lot of long train journeys and camping trips in the highlands, I don't think it has left my stereo in 15 years.

Anyway, tonight I was obviously extra susceptible, the wee poem at the start was giving me proper tingles down the back of my scalp, then the bass line sent them down the back of my spine, then the big crescendo almost had me in tears. Bizarre, wonderful and probably a little bit worrying, last time I got this sort of reaction to a good tune I was probably 18 and high 😎🙄

Anyone else enjoying a 5m30s midlife crisis with their headphones? 😁

How?! I'm going to launch my machine through a window, at least I would do if I wasn't remote controlling it.

My 'wee zone' is basically doing stuff that a first day graduate should be doing, doesn't seem overly taxing for my PC (am not remoting in thankfully, just downloading drawings off VPN but then working on them locally).

Aligning pipework drops in wall voids or as my wee one put it 'put that red circle between those grey lines' except repeat several hundred times...

That's the bit I hate. Drawing a keyklamp handrail almost finished me off the other day.

Generally can't vpn because my machine needs access to heavy civ models. Remoting is fine it's the having to do it in the first place that's leaving me in bits.

I seem to remember that 'poem' is from an early review of theirs in a Norwegian fanzine being translated for the band.

It's a great start to a great album.

“After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music”
Aldous Huxley
Something I can attest to over the last few months. It will be one of my next tattoos.

Aldous Huxley

I misread that as Aldous Harding and thought, “yeah, sounds like something she’d say”

Reminds me of a work experience placement when I was 14. I was supposed to measure the length of different width pipes on building drawings. I couldn't see the different widths. I didn't get it, so cried. The two middle aged blokes just looked at me awkwardly.

Anyway, this springs to mind.

Sounds familiar, I only just managed to avoid doing bloody take-offs as recently as last week at the ripe old age of 38 🙄
