I heard it last night on R4. I thought it was pretty crazy.

I'd guess for two reasons... pension funds that they manage, plus (and not entierly unrelated) their passive index-tracking funds are used by dozens of investment vehicles and are simply collossal

Don't feel cheated Tom. It must have been Friday somewhere when he heard it on Radio 4?

The youngster working for me announced this morning that:

'Vets are legally allowed to 'work' on humans, but doctors are not allowed to 'work' on animals'

I suggested that if he trips, falls and breaks his leg, then I'll arrange for a vet to shoot him in the head as a 'cure' 😆

It must have been Friday somewhere when he heard it on Radio 4?

iPlayer means that it can be Thursday night for the next week, too.

Mr Feet, You can tell your youngster that his Friday fact is a Friday falsehood 🙂

There's no special exemption for vets.

Anybody can provide medical treatment for humans in the UK so long as they don't prescribe, don't sign certain statutory forms, don't falsely represent themselves as qualified doctors of medicine and don't falsely claim to be licensed.

Can Doctors treat animals?

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons says

Only registered members of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons may practise veterinary surgery. ...
A number of exceptions apply ...
anyone administering emergency first aid to save life or relieve pain or suffering

Overall conclusion

Anyone, including Doctors, can treat animals in emergencies (subject to important provisos)

Anyone, including Vets, can treat humans (with some important restrictions)

How do we know you may have decided last night when you heard it, we can't trust you anymore. You've made us cry.

I don't think its a case of deliberate deception Drac, so not neccessarily a trust issue

However, the day-based confusion does raise serious issues about his reliability as a source. For all we know he could be sat in pool of his own wee, wondering where he left his Werthers Originals, and by now he could think its Tuesday

But it's Thursdays information. THURSDAY!

They could have sold off some of it by now. If I pass this fact on, you would have made me a liar!

Think of the consequences of your actions man!

hows about last sunday fact of the day, friend says that the £7.4 million fine that been imposed on Swinton's for aggressive/mis-selling, means bugger all when they make 92 million through doing it...

Not really news, but even so, worth knowing when it comes to your renewal.

This is getting out of hand now. You can't pass comment off as facts. Especially on a Friday, when the fact/comment clearly appeared at a weekend

This is how it starts. Before you know it... anarchy!

Bregante, that's what we said to him.

We also told him that his friend, who is a vet, probably pissed herself laughing when she got to work the following day and told her fellow vetists!

EDIt: when I say 'youngster', he's actually 26!!

Can we get back to the facts please.

Legal and general also have a £500 billion investment pot*.

*this was possibly 500 million, I had my head under the water at the time, but 500 billion sounds better.

I'll have to have a think,

no, no... that sounds like a horrible idea.

i have (not i'm not prescribing, just offering a gift to a loyal customer) something you can take to stop this whole messy 'thinking' thing

don't falsely represent themselves as qualified doctors of medicine

Very few doctors of medicine about. Your local GP probably isn't one and there probably won't be more that a handful in hospitals.

MBChB most of 'em. Bachelors falsely claiming to be Doctors.
