Hello,
Having lurked for long enough on here I thought I'd start a thread based on the all too common theme of career change/stagnation.
I'm surplus to the civil service at the moment and have another six months til any kind of redundancy might be paid. I'm not angling for that though as not likely to be much in he grand scheme. I'm mid 30s, no dependants, manageable mortgage.
I've worked in a few govt departments doing a mix of project support (qualified PRINCE2 Practitoner) and more lately in internal communications and data analysis. I've tried getting promotions but heart never been in it and writing competency based applications doesn't agree with me. I think I'm of a good intelligence academically but struggle with the softer skills expected to progress. The civil service is good for life balance but being a generalist is getting me down.
I've looked at personality types and I seem to be a mix of ISTP, ISTJ and ISFP. I'm a good logical thinker, dont like working with too many people or being micro managed and good with written word, problem solving and trying to see the most direct route to get things done and minimal chatter etc.
I'm open to ideas re what job type migth be suitable. I think I'm intelligent enouigh to try for something involving further study, would prefer one to one working or small teams etc.
Things I've considered:
Data analysis
Programming
Retraining in an NHS role i.e. cognitive therapy
BT apprenticeship
Facilities
Surveying
Communications - but only written and not creative.
Thanks for any help in advance.

I've already got the job B.A.Nana 8)
Retraining in an NHS role i.e. cognitive therapy
How many years do you want to retrain for?
Could you not go back to being a professional twix hunter?
Ideally not take too much time out to retrain but accept the reality would be several years full time.
Professional twixhunter would fit the bill. 8)
Data analysis? Get a hold of someone in the government or service.
