I've just been working on some layout designs an stylesheets for a sportswear retailer (no... not that one). I was looking at some footwear and spotted a pair of 'trainees' beloved by the local chavery. The young ruffians around these parts all seem to sport them, to accessorise with their tracky bottoms tucked into their socks and their hoody. Its 'a look', certainly

Then I saw the price of them, presumed it must have been a typo, double checked, and it wasn't HOW ****ING MUCH?!!!

So good people of Singletrack, can you put a price on theses handsome items of footwear, which don't look at all ridiculous? Don't cheat and google it, have a guess. Closest guess gets a visitation by the restless spirit of Hora who will enthusiastically goose your leg

Again... no googling please. Ladies and gentlemen guess the price of the Nike Air Vapormax...

They're probably about £160, but that's not particularly surprising. The price of shoes in general has skyrocketed. Must look at any Merrel/Vivo barefoot/running shoe, etc and all the top models are £100+.
Personally, I can't bear to spend more than £50 on approach-type shoes.

Jut found them... crazy price given they look like any other pair.

Good marketing spiel 😀

So the VaporMax Flyknit gives you a lot of comfort and fun on every occasion.

Don´t miss on the Vapormax Flyknit
Upper material: textile / synthetic
Inner material: textile
Insole: textile
Lace up closure (5-hole)
Flyknit upper
Integrated flywire elements
Stabilizing overlays on toe and heel
Swoosh design
Nike logo on the tongue
Vapormax logo on the heel
Continuous, visible MaxAir unit
Grippy profile with rubber studs

VaporMax 2: Ingenious technology and unique comfort
After seven years of development, Nike proudly presents its new Air system, something that has never been seen before in any sneaker! Not only the unique stud design and the completely transparent air sole cause a sensation, the technology behind the air system is also thrilling! By passing on a midsole and insole you get a completely new comfort and the springy running feeling will fascinate you!

More than a pair of Spesh 2f0, less than a decent pair of bespoke Oxfords.

£160 sounds about right.

Mrs Dubs spends a lot of time in her Asics - they are about £150 full price. Always buy last year's model 🙂

Hmmm, old holy socks stuck onto indistinct shiny rubber. Looks cheap n' nasty. But probably £130 RRP?

£250ish is my guess.

Having now googled, there seems to be a variety of price options?

They look like those cheap black plimsoles that were compulsory for gym in the late 70's so £4.99, the soles remind me of the rolls of fat that you see bulging out of those that wear "athletic wear".

£320? Shiny Shiny aren't they.

Edit. I've looked now. Well thats disappointing. I'm pretty sure a pair of air max were at least that when I were a lad, so not really seen much inflation.

TBF, over at TrainerTrackiesWorld they would be asking HOW %&*£ING MUCH? for a top end bike. And many of us will have spent that sort of money on a pair of shorts for cycling (I haven't, but I bet loads of us have).

By the look of them, one would hope no more than £80.

Runs off to google (well, you know, i moved my mouse about a bit), crumbs, that is a great deal of cash for a unique street style like what everyone else has got.

Tyred Jr the Elder's footwear of choice. I've no idea what they cost - I'm not paying for them, he is.

To be teamed with cotton tracky bottoms (Adidas or Nike only, black only), North Face jacket (black only, to be worn regardless of weather condition and current smell, ideally with hood up until told to put your stupid hood down by parent) and vaguely incredulous, surly expression at all times. No deviations accepted by peer group. Accessories include phone (permanently welded to hand), headphones, heavy-footed stamping, all manner of dropped consonants and liberal use of 'fam' as term of address.

Several times I think I've spotted him nearby, only to realise it's a clone.

Yes, we had one of those mornings.

Anyway, how can you put a price on shoes that give you the ability to wheelie a Carrera Vulcan with your phone in one hand and a fag in your mouth?

+1

I guessed £130 which seems to be what they are in the shops.

My running shoes were £150, £45 of that was insoles but the actual shoes were just the functional rather than fashionable equivalent of those.

Our 15 year old searches quite often for trainers, seems to be a thing with the yoof ov 2day. He showed me these ones, luckily he doesn't like them. Neither does anyone else in the house.

Tricker's were in House of Fraser in Doncaster, which is run as an outlet store for the whole chain and has all sorts of odds and sods turn up. I don't think they have many Tricker's left but they seem to have loads of Thom Browne trainer styles which don't seem to be shifting, they'd likely do better on ebay rather than Doncaster, but none of it shows on their website.

So how much for a pair of Semi-fat 27.5 tyres these days (list price)? Can't be much different to those Nikes.

Actually I've got a good idea how much they are as I was looking at a pair in a Nike factory shop the other week, purely out of interest, I'm sure you understand.

And yes, it was a 'HOW MUCH???' moment.

Far happier with the long sleeve Dryfit top i picked up from there for a fiver though

It seems ironic to me that as a community we curse people who judge us by what we wear ("lycra a bit tight?" was one insult I heard this morning) but are happy to do exactly the same to those we judge beneath us.

Maybe it wouldn't kill people to rein it in, and just ask themselves what exactly they get from taking the piss out of other people who have literally done *nothing* to deserve it? Why is this acceptable but pointing and laughing in the street isn't?

Hating seems to be everyone's favourite thing to do at the moment and I for one am well and truly ****ing sick of it.

Me too, but my (insert name of heat mouldable shoe) added a couple of hours to the time I can ride without aggravating my Morton's neuroma or whatever it is. Worth every penny IMO. Those nikes aren't to my old man tastes but each to their own, the first thing I noticed was glue oversmear which would rankle me for the price.

Gosh, lots of cash.

Happily you can get the same shoe in white (or rainbow-esque multi-colour if that's your thing) for just over half the price. Little bit of black marker pen and Bob's your father's brother.

Women's sizes mind, so only up to size 10. Which rules me out. The search continues..

Same in Forensic Mental Health.
There's a magazine called 'Get The Gear' which seems specifically aimed at those who don't get out much.

Under Armour seems to be the clothing brand of choice, with a nice new pair of Nike.

Most of the patients are far more expensively dressed than the staff 🙂

£170.

and I don't need to google it. Current fashion is chunky soles, and ugly 80/90 inspired colours schemes and ridiculous (hideous) fashion labels. When Belcenciaga can pile 6 coats on top of each other and start a trend for OTT big, then trainers will folow it.

The world of fashion (high end) and sneaker-dom are coming together. It had to happen, when some styles of Nike Zoom go for hundreds, and KendelJ starts wearing Louis Vuitton on her Intsa, people will pay silly money.

Your welcome

I've never understood the snobbery on here when the majority of it is from a bunch of middle aged men so shit at their chosen "sport" most can barely hold a 2 pedal stroke wheelie on their multi thousand pound mountain bike.

I spoke to a bunch of kids in trackies riding Careras outside Burger king on Friday afternoon. Nice kids and probably way more skillful at riding a bike than most on here.
