Kinda taken by France. Nice country.
What's the French equivalent of Idealista?
You see a lot of property for sale/rent on leboncoin.fr
leboncoin.fr is probably the most used.
I bought my current house via it.
I also found my old house that I part owned and lived in with my wife and children at the time up for sale on it......
It depends what you are looking for and where.
When Mrs. asbrooks and I were looking to move to the south of France, somewhere around les Cévennes (not found anything yet), we we're looking for a doer upper with land.
There are lots to choose from on this site.

Other than Leboncoin, another big place for direct buying and selling is Pap
If buying through an agency, don't forget to grit your teeth when you find out the commission percentage they're taking for doing the grand sum of SFA.
Buying and selling direct, i.e. without an agent was really easy. The solicitors handle more than would normally be expected in UK at least when I bought there back in 2004. Lots of agencies advertise their properties on leboncoin.
The other one I used a bit was seloger.com
Leggett's are one of the big(ger) Brit agents. We used them to handle our sale in Brittany a couple of years ago but they're all over France. I wouldn't say they do SFA. Their services are useful as they're on site to liaise with all the inspection and certification stuff plus the Notaire which can be a nightmare. We didn't use them for marketing as we'd found our own buyer.
Apparently we still 'own' ours after completing the sale in 2020 as the Notaire has failed to register the change... Also, the one who handled our purchase 25 years ago was put in jail for tax fraud. So beware of relying solely on the local Solicitor (Notaire)...
See, now, you've gone and made me look at property in France, and get all jealous and annoyed...
Cheers guys....
Just idly looking, but we were both quite taken with the place.
Not as hectic as Italy. Tidier and greener than Spain.
Mrs. asbrooks is French, she came to the UK some 30years ago, packed her bags right after her degree and moved to London. We had always intended to move back after the kids had flown the nest. Hence we have been looking for a while. She wants a city or large town, I want the country side & and hills. finding a middle ground it tricky.
Although from her last comment on the subject, I don't want to move back to France, I don't really like the French :-). A re-think maybe in order.
Hold on @asbrooks, higher up the thread weren't you looking at somewhere in les Cévennes ? There aren't many large towns or cities there, unless you think le Vigan is a thriving metropolis! Millau is nice enough but everything there seems overpriced and Alès has that grim post industrial decline vibe.
@boblo There's no need for an agent once you find the right notaire.

Agreed though in our experience, this is a bit of a lottery (100% fail so far...).
This coupled with the language/local customs aspects, had us use UK agents for purchase and sale. I don't regret either as dealing with French language bureaucracy by remote control isn't easy and the Notaire has no involvement in managing the various mandatory certifications/process steps required (beyond checking they exist at point of completion).
Being asked to transfer nx£100k by some random in France isn't for the faint hearted. I baulked at remitting to a UK company I had a Contract with never mind a man I didn't know in a small office in rural France...
Rightmove has overseas properties on it.
@ocrider my wife is contrary at best 🙂 She had this wild idea of opening up a yoga retreat, so did her training then promptly changed her mind. Lost count how many times it has changed.
I live in Millau, property is expensive because of the foreign légion.
Luckily i inherited a large house.
We Just sold our house in the uk.
If you are looking at remote area, local agents are the best.
Buying and selling is a lot easier and a lot less stressfull. Go to notaire, sign the compromis, go back 3 months later and it is done.
I live in Millau,
Nice place with lots of activities around. Was quite taken by the area.
We used a local agent when we bought in France… and when we sold we used eBay.
I think Greenacres might be partly responsible for us living in France - the ads followed the other half round the internet through the coldest winter of Covid: https://www.green-acres.fr/en
We actually bought direct from the vendors and it went ok. We live in the Pyrenees Orientales now, trails from the door and a train to the city for €1. I was keen to move to Germany (half-German) but I’ve completely fallen for France. It’s way better organised than the UK, beautiful and the food is amazing. Being in a border area there are loads of people speaking multiple languages (first time in my life I’ve not felt odd about being multi-lingual) and it’s been super welcoming and our French has been encouraged even though it was pretty rubbish when we arrived.
We've got ours up for sale with a local agent but the market (and French economy) isn't in great shape. We're out again in a couple of weeks and will be in contact with some other agencies.
