Hi,
Long story short...
Fridge stacked on top of freezer in garage. Rat ate its way into fridge via drain hole. Nice.
Muggins' here wanted to fix said hole in lunch break.
Discovered rat nest underneath/inside base of freezer. Grim.
Freezer moved about 1 meter. Now freezer won't turn on/no compressor sound.
Any freezer experts in the house who can suggest a logical approach to diagnose/fix?
Thanks
Chris
Sounds like the rats have chewed through a wire somewhere?
Tip it over and have a good inspection underneath.
That may help but it's far from the actual logical approach here, which is set the whole thing on fire and run away.
Lol....I had considered setting it on fire!
It was working prior to me moving it. Will the compressor switch on if the gases are 'unbalanced' and need settling?
A pet snake will take care of the rats.

Yes I believe it will work, just won't get properly cold if the gases are unsettled. Might be wrong, but it should make some sort of noise.
Anyway. just moving it out 1m won't have caused any problems with the gas.
A loose wire that was still touching could have been nudged out of place by the move. Seems the most likely explanation to me (not a freezer expert)
If it helps I’ve got an upright freezer suitable for outbuildings, only about three years old that you can have for free if you need it. If @cjr61 doesn’t need it the offer is open to anyone - I’m in North East Derbyshire and will need collecting before the 28th.
Have you just done it now? Leave it unplugged for a couple of hours and then try again.
Also, the compressor doesn't run continually, it won't fire if it's already cold enough.
Wear gloves and use plenty of disinfectant, rats can spread weils disease!
It's not Beko is it? They sometimes appear to do nothing when you turn them on and there is a delay of 5 mins or so before they actually start up. Think there is something in the instructions about it but I forget and panic every time I turn ours off!
I'm NE Derbyshire so may be interested in your freezer @wheelsonfire1 if OP doesn't want it
Thanks all.
@wheelsonfire1 - thanks very much for the offer but think it's fixed now. Yep, gloves worn, plenty of disinfectant liberally applied also!
and the correct answer was.....
@ossify . . . . on closer inspection the little bastard had chewed through the power cable and when I moved the freezer it must have broke the last remaining copper fibres. Replaced and freezer comes on! Phew.
Thanks for the advice everyone, didn't fancy having to buy a new freezer today.
I love this place.
I do too, most of the time! Tall upright freezer still going free if @dashed doesn’t want it…
