We have finally decided to drop Sky TV etc, we are paying too much and not really using the channels.

I am now looking at Freesat Boxes as we only have a dish and no ariel. The only function we really need is to record (not a great deal of tv is watched).

So what's peoples experience with FREESAT UHD-4X Smart 4K Ultra HD Digital TV Recorder, any good?

I do think that the Sky boxes, tv guide and the remote function and operate very well compared to other stuff I have tried.

I've literally done the same 2 days ago.

Going with Freesat built into the TV, and Plusnet or some other BB for <£20 p/m.

I need to get up onto the extension where the dish is, to change the LNB. Apparently, the LNB for a Sky Q box is different, and won't transfer the signal for Freesat - Older type HD box LNBs are okay. (Already confirmed this by unscrewing the cable from the Q box, and fitting it directly to the TV - no signal) New LNB for around a tenner on ebay.

29 days and counting

If either of you are Southampton way, I have a HUMAX recorder going spare - free to a good home! It's a few years old now and not 4K

We did similar, bit bought an old Humax box.

It's, well, fine. UI is nowhere near as good as the Sky box, but it records, which is what we want it for. Most telly is watched via iPlayer now though (which is why we binned Sky, we were paying whatever a month to watch the BBC, some C4, and ITV4 once a year for The Tour).

Just be aware that some of the HD channels you might expect to get on Freesat, like C4, you don't. SD only, due to some spat between C4 and Freesat.

Interesting. We have been in our new house for 6 months plus now. We have a satellite dish and I believe it is a sky q (wide band) one. (It has two cables)

Anyway, most stuff we watch on demand, but it would be nice to have live TV occasionally.

I asked an aerial dude to come
Round as I thought he could just switch the lab thingy as mentioned above so it would work with my old non wideband freeway box.

The response I got was to buy a new box.

Are we saying it is relatively easy to switch a wideband dish to an older one? That is not the impression I got from the person.

We ditched Virgin cable just last weekend. 🙂

Turns out the cable in the corner behind the telly is NOT the coax from the aerial - that's in another room. So some cable rerouting required before we can get terrestrial telly - iPlayer and Netflix will suffice in the meantime. 🙂
