Take what you like, you don't have to offer back.... but you'll need to respond super-quick to adverts, as stuff goes very quick.

Have offloaded and recieved some good stuff on the Bristol Freecycle group... and met some intersting folks along the way 😉

Just used it to get rid of a TV we had, the responses came in thick and fast. There seemed to be a lot of people doing house clearance type stuff, offering to take stuff away and others advertising them for offer, so mightbe useful for you. I dont think you have to offer stuff back but am not sure.

No.... perhaps interesting should have been in quotes, as its ranged from normal, everyday, folk to completely bonkers-nuts looneys. All very nice in their own way though!

I did sign up to this and proceeded to get a million and one e-mails! To be honest, I feel a bit concerned about strangers turning up at my door to look at things so did not proceed. Funny though, don't seem to worry about STW'ers!!

I did advertise a free fridge on here a few months back, a time-waster arranged to view and never turned up. So, if anyone wants a Bosch fridge in perfect working order and excellent condition, e-mail in profile. A donation to STW or charity would be nice.

No you don't have to offer anything - though give and take is encouraged. There seem to be lots of cycling people who use it - so bigger non-portable stuff is harder to get rid of.

CG - Yes, that was a problem for me to start with, but you can change your settings so you don't recieve all the emails of the group. I generally just review the listings on the website every day or so.

I used to subscribe to freecycle, but the amount of WTDs far outweighed the offers. Got a bit jaded with all the requests so dont go on there anymore.
Nothing wrong with asking for stuff on the off chance, but some of the requests were ridculous i.e Jetskis, caravans, Wii's!!!
Just goes against the spirit of it all.
Its supposed to be stuff that you're chucking out as you have no further use for it, but someone else might i.e. recycling. When was the last time you threw a Wii out?

I use it, give loads of stuff away and I also get stuff from there example: gave away an ercol dining suite, was given two old cameras (not to and from the same people) its goods!

The number of emails will drive you balmy unless you use Outlook rules to filter them out under "offered", and dump the thousands of "wanteds" direct to the bin.

I'm a member of the Mole Valley one and it works well. Your 1st post with them has to be an offer but after that no problem. I gave away stuff when I moved house but have ended up with some useful stuff back - good place for decent CRT tellies. There is no excuse to dump anything vaguely useful!

You can easily get that sort of stuff as long as you can collect it. If you have a van or a big roof rack you can take your pick. I recently got rid of 2 perfectly good sofas, the chap did me a favour by taking them. I would have struggled to do anything else with them.

You do not have to offer in order to take - you can do nothing but take.

I got my current monitor from Freecycle, but have given away a fair bit too. I ignore the email side of things, preferring to visit the website every so often.

Not sure if it's the same for all site but on the one I'm registered with you can turn off notification e-mails.

It took about 10 mins for me to get rid of my old CRT TV on the site. I could have gotten a few quid for it but I just wanted shot of it quickly so it suited me fine.

I subscribed for a bit in Edinburgh and found it too much hassle dealing with the time wasters, I got beseiged by emails from spanners who would never show up etc as there was no money involved. Maybe it works better in a quieter area. Some of the moochers on the site are funny though - asking for all sorts.

Someone was asking for a breast feeding chair on mine recently - apparently such things exist.... The one I remember most though was when someone wanted a dog to get intimate with their bitch - someone complained about that one.

Used it to furnish a whole flat when I was poor. Then when I moved out into a furnished place, got rid of everything back on there. Have had some good stuff, like a pretty new table top freezer which saved me a few bob. I think it's ace.

Just managed to get rid of a whole kitchen on it this week - we thought it was past it but some people have made use of it...
