I'm looking for somewhere to host a web service I've been building over the past few months so that I can get a few people to do a Beta test/proof of concept for me. I haven't yet finalised the domain name so was thinking of hosting it on one of the free services for this stage before moving to a paid service once I've got a bit more feedback.
It's built using MODx (Revolution) so I need PHP/MySQL but nothing much more than that. Don't mind if it gets plastered with ads at the moment as I'll be sticking AdSense on it once its up and running.
Any recommendations of hosts worth using or avoiding most welcome.
you could just get a vps for £2 a month and sort it yourself, that way when you go live you have the hosting already sorted.
Freeola here, free but you have to upload via their (local rate) phone number when you wish to alter your web site.
If you could justify around £30 per year, I would recommend eUKhost Ltd - a UK based hosting company. I had a hobby site with them a couple of years ago on their Copper shared cPanel hosting plan and it worked very well. (Note that 'shared' means that multiple sites are hosted on one server, so theoretically your performance could be impacted by your comrades but I never experienced any issues). The support was very good and there were good tutorials too.
By paying, you do get rights and you save the horrible banner advertising that tends to go with free sites.
The link above is my affiliate link so if you use it I would receive a small commission if you did sign up.
