You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Anyone ever had one that DIDN'T result in needing the work they were checking for?
Took the van into the tyre place today to change a front. They said they would do a free tracking check.
That's nice of them I thought. You don't get much for free these days I thought.
Lo and behold, turns out it does need the tracking adjusted and it'll be a further £30 😂
Cynical? Me?...

I took my car in for 2 new tyres today. It didn't need the tracking adjusted.
I took the van in for a check to the front offside tyre as I’d had a nail in it. The nail had gone but they took the wheel off checked the tyre thoroughly including soaping and immersing in a water bath. Couldn’t find a leak or any damage and took about 20 minutes and then refused my request to pay.
Well that's not really in the spirit of things.... 😣
I was hoping for some supportive evidence for my paranoia.

the tyre place near me is like this. Took my car in to get tracking checked, they chucked on the ramp, started to have set up, then one of the techies, had a look over the wheels, came back and just said, nah your wheels are buggered mate, no point finishing the tracking. I tried to give em some ££ for their time and they said no..
KwickFit checked my tracking for free, no changes needed.
I also never seem to have problems with their MOT's either.
It's done by a computer with lasers, they can't really fiddle it or offer an opinion, it's either right or wrong. They can't even check a car that isn't on the system, I've taken the MG in with the wheels visibly pointing the wrong way and they've refused to check it as the computer doesn't have the info for it!
I've had an alignment check done when I had my brakes replaced a while ago, they gave me the printout showing it was spot on and not needed.
My receipt says nothing on it. It doesn't even list the tyre that I bought and had fitted. Just lots of boxes next to checks with nothing ticked.
Think I'll avoid there next time.
On two occasions I’ve had two different cars in with garage and they’ve noted tracking out and, probably as a result, two new tyres needed. I had tracking done by garage but took cars to local tyre place for new tyres (their suggestion - cheaper). When tyres done, been told by tyre place “We’ve just checked your tracking and that needs doing”. When I told them that another garage has just checked it, I was told “They probably use different figures to us”. Cynical, moi? (Actually, both garage and tyre fitters have been excellent in all other respects in the past)
The works car is maintained at kwik fit. It had 4 new tyres 3 months ago. Someone stole the rear wiper so I took it in. "Just a rear wiper please" he then proceeded to check all the tyres, he came back and said the rear drivers looks old (all replaced at same time by this kwik fit)
By old do you mean worn? No, is it OK then? Didn't answer.
I think they thought because it's a Fleet car I'd just change it and he would get commission.
As it's a fleet car it would need authorised the fleet company would query why they thought if needed changed.
