Do you good people have suggestions for software such as Sketchup for doing some plans for an extension we are planning. I'm a bit out of touch with this sort of thing, is Sketchup stil the best?
This is very much in the general interest of STW as once the plans are done I'll have to build the thing which will considerablly reduce the time I spend making possibly irritating posts as I'll have to build the thing.
Ta.
I used Sketchup for most stuff like that. mainly for visualisation rather than detailed building plans though. Lets you check sight lines between rooms etc.
+1 for Sketchup (was going to suggest it before I'd read the post)
My wife is an architect and will still use Sketchup for relatively simple stuff rather than bothering to load up AutoCAD/Revit.
I've been using floorplanner.com for general potential extension planning and current house layout stuff. The free version limits you to a single storey per project (but can make a second project with the next storey on).
It's quick and easy to use and dropping in from a library of furniture and windows, doors etc is good for looking at how the spaces allows furniture to fit. Not sure if it's any good for technical drawings - maybe the paid up version allows this?
Thanks for the suggestions so far, that's floorplanner added to the things to check out. It only has to be simple because it only requires a declaration of works not full planning permission. They accepted a hand drawn sketch with a few dimensions last time.
The main function of the plans will be working drawings when I start digging holes and making things.
NanoCAD.
I've used all those already mentioned and unless you just want to test room layouts, I'd go straight for this.
