So I'm part of a local group (opposing the building of some tower blocks in a residential low density area).
We need a way to download and search/share/markup thousands of documents so we can split the workload.
Many of the documents are scans without editable text .. so a quick and effective OCR would also help.

The developer essentially has limitless funds and we have donations.
The aim of this is to lessen the workload across "dozens" so a pay per user is a poor model for the access. OCR could be centralised....

It would also be a nice touch to be able to reference the documents in-situ for anyone so we can for example write documents with references where joe public can go and see the documents themselves .. when we write a fullfact type mythbuster.

I'm sure Google Drive has an OCR function/convertor.

It's then down to file naming and storing discipline to make sure it's useable and logical.

Google is probably the simplest. I'd say Dropbox is probably better but ideally needs software installed for each user. There is a web interface and you can create public download links though. If you do go for Dropbox you can use a referral code for each user to bump up the free storage space. Look at google first and see if that is enough.

avdave2 .... I rather think that would be more appropriate for our 2 Tory Councillors supporting this that both have a gardens on private roads bigger than this entire site for >1000 high rise non affordable hovels.... and one of whom has announced his retirement next year to go live on his estate in Scotland... (that is bigger than the entire town)

These apartments do not fit the councils own housing analysis requirements (they are zero to 1 bed apartments miles from the station and with no local employment, no school places, no medical) when the planning departments own analysis shows we already have an excess of studios (and they are building several tower blocks in the town centre with more) ... and the housing and landuse analysis shows what the town needs are 2/3 bedroom family homes... and the head cllr has already stated they do not need to be bound by providing affordable housing as "this is a community asset".

All this does is shift the councils obligation to build a number of residences away from the affluent areas of the borough without addressing the actual need.

(There is a LOT more.... including directorships, the small matter of the council lending £250M to the developer (who has a record of failed projects) ... even when the economic assessment made by BNP Parisbas for the developers declared it non-economic

Sorry stevextc I just couldn't resist a stw response.:-) All around where I live new houses are going in built to standards which are no where close to where they should be and with no infra structure at all. I thought I'd be moving soon and top of my must have lists was a decent option to cycle to work as the roads are becoming gridlocked in the morning. Good luck in your attempts to see that any development actually creates a place fit to live in.

LOL ... no-one opposing this has any objection to houses.... or even low rise flats

Anyways.... at the moment I'm using my personal google drive and connected a Image OCR plug-in... which seems OK but unable to handle the docs unless I split them first... (though doing 20 pages at a time)

anyone know a better solution ?
