It being the Rugby World Cup next month, the only thing I ever consider putting a bet on just for a bit of fun, I was having a look at the odds online from various bookies. They all seem to have these free bet offers if you place a £10 bet with them. I've sat down with a bit of paper, and worked out that if I spend £10 each with four bookies, I can lay a total of £120 worth of bets, and if any of New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, France or England win the RWC, I would at a minimum just more than double my £40, and potentially (Allez les Blues) win nearly £400.

It's either a no brainier or I've missed something critical?

Often you can't draw your winnings.... You have to bet it on other matches/games/whatever diluting their 'loss'

Yes with free bets you have to 'bet through' a certain amount more before you can withdraw your winnings

Not always, and usually not with the smaller free bet offers. Have a read around 'matched betting' and see if there's something you've missed, but generally, yes, it is that simple. If you need to re-wager the initial bet it becomes more work, but I've made a few hundred quid in the past through using the free sign up offers and matching them with betfair.

Not seeing anything in the T&Cs for any of the four I was looking at to that effect.

Think you may need to exclude the free bet as you may only get back the winnings.

I've deducted the stakes for the free bets in my sums, I assume that's what you mean.

There does appear to be a time limit for 'using' the free bets. I wonder if that means you have to place the bet within that time, or if the event has to occur within that time?

as mentioned above, look into 'matched betting'. there are a few sites that talk you through it, with online calculators etc.

its guaranteed profit so long as you follow the instructions. ive had a few hundred before it got too complicated, others have had thousands. i stopped as it became too time-consuming and i didnt understand the t&c's of some of the more complicated bets.

Done now, £40 spent, anywhere between £85-£390 to be won as long as one of those five win. Think I'll leave it there though, not a hobby to get too stuck into I think 🙂

£80 worth of free bets should be netting you a around of £60

What you have done is specifically called dutching, although obviously not quite covering all eventualities.
